Just wondering how many of the PP members throw metal constantly for steelhead and consistantly catch fish.

Isn't that an oxymoron? Catching steelhead consistently?

I throw hardware for everything. Steelhead, salmon, trout, etc. Nothing like fishing for steelhead when it's 28 degrees and you have a inch thick layer of frozen egg juice on your hands and pants. It makes that ride home so much more enjoyable.

Caught my very first steelhead (ever) last year on a Little Cleo..it was the kelt shown in my Avitar image.

Since that time I've tossed what must amount to a ton of metal for steelhead. Caught lots of nice Dollies, but no more metalheads. Then again, I wasn't fishing the best water for them.

Caught bunches of Coho last fall and winter on steel.

I always have a couple of spoons with me summer and winter if nothing else I do gets a response from the fish and I know that there are fish there on go the spoons now that you have me thinking about it I better rig up a few more as I donated a few to the river the last time out

will fish spoons and spinners when the time is right. If I see a piece of water that can work my spoon then Ill throw it, most water you could, but there is certain times that are perfect.

I throw a lot of spoons in late winter and spring. Usually 5/8oz hammered brass or silver finish. I like 'em for silvers too in a little smaller sizes with orange or pink accents.

I played around a little with the Copper BC Steelies last summer and winter. No Steelhead but did manage a lot of dollies.

Many years ago, I caught a summer native fish with a red color spoon.

Any of you guys got any tips, for a begginer, i picked up herzogs book, and have read it about 2 times, jsut wondering what other knowledge i am missing. Thanks

For spoons it is all about avoiding "The Push" as Herzog refers to it in his book.

I spoon fish more than any other technique, and it's VERY effective on any river. The one thing I'd say is work to work the spoon slow and get it down. If you want to catch fish, be prepared to lose tackle because you need to be flirting with the bottom.
