I have a few questions about drift boats. Any help would be great.

How hard is it to fish alone in a drift boat?

How well would a drift boat perform in a lake?

Not hard & very well.

I use my db in both situations regularly. The only down side to fishing alone is the turnaround but I have found various solutions for that. Aside from lakes I also use it very often on the "pond". Even though it is not the ideal craft for that water it is still a very effective fishing platform for salmon. Db's may not be built for speed or comfort but they are tough to beat as an all around fishing machine.

Agree with Mooch on that.
I have a Lavro DB and fish both rivers and lakes.
Works great!
I have not fished alone on river float trips, because of no shuttle.
If I can figure out the shuttle, I'd try the solo trip on the Sky.

I did it alone Saturday and Sunday on the Cow. I hooked up my electric motor and spent about 5 minutes on the oars the whole day from BC to mission. Still getting the hang of it, but overall, I had a line in the water the whole time.

I have a Yamaha QT50 for a turnaround rig that I attached a milk crate to. Attached a rocket launcher to the crate to hold my rod and net, put my other gear in the crate and wore my vest. This left minimal gear in teh boat. I did look like a porcupine going down the road. Made more than a few people smile.

My DB gets a bit squirrely on lakes when a wind comes up.

Hey Dogfish,
That is funny! \:D
But hey it works great don't it!
Someday if I grow up, I'll have to give that setup a try for a do it yourself shuttle. \:D
I like that idea!

I don't have a DB, but I have fished out of a friend's several times and I have a 10ft pontoon boat that I use alone. I rarely get off my boat to fish; I just anchor in the shallow water and fish from the boat. You can do the same in a drift boat. With an electric motor like dogfish you could fish any way you want. The shuttle is the hardest part but there are ways to fix that.

I have a milk crate secured to my rack with hose clamps and six pvc tubes secured to the crate with large zip ties. Holds two rods, two 2-piece oars, plus a dry bag.

One problem with a drift boat in a lake is when the wind kicks up. Not having a keel, a drift boat slides all over the place when it's windy.

Beezer is right about, the windy situations on lakes in a DB.

Thanks for the info. I am looking at getting a new boat. Not sure if a DB is what I will get, but this helps. Thanks again.

Strike Zone,

I thought that was you. I swear I saw your truck at the BC launch. I had two on. One for about 3 headshakes, the other lost at the boat. Saturday I caught a nasty steelhead, almost dead, 3 suckers, a whitefish, and a buttload of smolt/trout. The sleds did better Saturday overall than Sunday.

Nice boat! Need a net boy?

If I had a 80+lb electric I could really fly upstream. As it is I fished the second slot below Anderson bar four times. I was able to hold in most of the water, except for the fastest chutes at only 50% thrust with my 24lb.
