I'm trying to get some ideas about what the weather will be like in AK between late June and mid August.

We will be travelling most of the way up and down the coast and probably in Denali NP.

High temps, low temps, windy????

What should I be prepared for???

Should I bring a parka (not Parker)??? ;\)

Should I fix my AC before I go????

Bring it all ... sometimes you can see 80+ degree weather, especially in the interior. Last night on our trip, it was cold enough that I was dressed no diffrently than a mid-winter steelie trip.

One thing about AK in the summer, you'll never know what to expect!

Bob is right, bring everything. I was on the bus that runs you into Denali National Park in the middle of July and it snowed. I think the coldest I have ever been was in early June on the Kenai with a stiff wind running up the river and rain. I ski in Alaska in the Winter and I was never as cold as I was on that day in June.

Kenai River... June 25, 1988... four days after the longest day of the year..... only about 45 seconds less daylight than the actual solstice itself..... we're launching my brother's Hewescraft from Eagle Rock at 0400.

I start to push the boat pff the trailer.... and what do I feel on the windshield? FROST! I scrape it off with my fingernails to convince myself it's not a dream.

By 0500, a thick fog begins rising off the water and by 0530 we can hardly see a boat length away.

By 0700, the sun is burning off the fog, we are finally able to see just how crowded the river really is that morning. How the hell did we get to the Fallin' In Hole without a head on collision?
By 0800 we're able to shed our parkas but not the hooded sweatshirts underneath.

By 0930, we're down to shirtsleeves and by 1200, we're down to nothing but sunscreen on bare skin from the waist up.

Afternoon high hits 78 degrees from a low of at least 32 the night before.... hard to imagine a 46 degree swing in temps in about 12 hours in the middle of summer.

ONLY IN ALASKA.... yeah, be prepared for anything.

One of the coldest days I've spent outdoors was on the Kenai in the mid 90's......in July. Then again, last year was mostly t-shirt fishing. I hope this year is like last year, it makes it easier to feel things like knots, etc. Either way, life is always a little better when you're in AK, regardless of the weather.

My water bottle froze overnight on the lake at the top of the Alagnak River, during the last week of july. The next day, we were sweltering in tee shirts.
