This is a nut I've tried to crack several times with little (albeit some) success but I'll let you know where I have caught some.
Fox Island- 47.16.07N 122.40.36W
On the west side of the island north of the research facility, almost to the very northern part of the island.
Should be in about 230-250' of water. I have done very well here at times but most times the little buggars are real hard to find.
McNeil Island- 47.12.34N 122.38.10W
On the southeast corner of the island there are some pilings. Almost directly in front of the pilings in 200-250' of water. Again, I have caught some real nice spot shrimp here but most times it's a bust. It's not a bad place to hand out and catch sand dabs though before going ling hunting. Lots of deer and eagles, pretty cool.
I've found that the south sound is pretty muddy and I'm not sure if it's the most ideal habitat for these shrimp but I've also talked to people that live in Carr Inlet and have heard stories of how much shrimp they used to catch out there. This area used to be used for commercial harvesting of shrimp from what I've read and heard. I'll be interested to see the responses on this post. I'd love for more people to try and figure out this fishery and share their reports.
