Any one ever try these things on the water? My wife bought a pair of the 5 mi radius models for Father's Day (ok, it's a little early but she and the kids are headed to grandpa's for vacation).

Before I break open the blister pack, I would like to know if anyone has ever tried these things on the lower Kenai with any success.

FishN,

Just got back from a Kammy trout trip in the Canadian outback. The older yeller Mot models we used worked great to stay in contact and help us reconnointer every so often. I understand the newer models are considerably better, especially on battery life. Our AA's needed to be replaced about every other day. But I'm sure they'd work out very well on the Kenai where it's flatter and even more unrestricted than where we were.
Good luck 'n 10 fer gud buddy.

My dad and I have had a set of Mororolas for about three years. I think their range is only rated for three miles. We use them hunting and they are great, though we are rarely more than a mile apart. The worst we've got from them is a little static in our transmissions in heavily timbered ridge country.

They're great radios for what they do. I would'nt be surprised if you get even greater range up around Kenai. They're basically line of sight devices. Have used them for years and they can take a licking and keep on ticking.
