Well I finally did it, and took my 4 year son, ALex, fishing in the jet boat. We hit the Klamath River for a little springer fishing. I wanted our first trip to be special, so it was him and I. He slept the hour drive to the river, and we were on the water at 530 am. Got a late start as I did not want to run the river in the dark, with just us to. We fished in one spot until 900 am with not even a take down. Ended up moving up river and to a different spot. Gotta tell you it is tough to run the engine, and try to set the anchor. (we anchor spinner fish springers on the klamath). At about 945 am we finally had a fish hit one of our cv-7 half and half green spinners, and stick. We grabbed the rod and the fish immediatley went into the heavy water. Alex was not able to hold the rod, so I had to put it in the rod holder, while I brought in my rod. I so was excited I got my finger hung up in the anchor cleat, while trying to break anchor. I finally go the motor started, and grabbed the rod expecting the fish to have gotten slack line, and spit the hook. The fish gods were watching over us and the fish was still there. I held the rod and ALex did MOST of the reeling. Once we got the fish up to boat, I found out how much fun it is to try to net a fish by yourself with 3 feet of leader, and 4 ounces of lead swinging around. I got the 16lb buck in the boat, and the first thing Alex says is "is it a moma fish?, we dont want to kill the babies". Once I convinced him it was a daddy fish he had to hit it several times on the head the fish club. After about 5 minutes he wanted to know if the fish was going to ge o.k. We had a great time, he tells the story better than I do. I have been waiting for this day for a long time. One proud daddy here.
