I thought reiter was closed I was just looking at the New edition of the Weekender reporter on the WDFW website and they are saying you can catch fish at reiter. I thought it was closed to Aug 1st ???????????

I just looked at the last two issues and didn't see anything specific to Reiter. It's definately not open until Aug. 1 in the regs, so unless you see an "emergency opening", which sounds dicey at best, I'd proceed with caution!

They opened it early a couple of years ago, but I don't remember what sort of mechanism they used to announce it.

I just looked at the escapement report for today:

http://wdfw.wa.gov/hat/escape/e070804.pdf

I think they need 250 to open it? Doesn't look good. And what's with the 20% mortality rate? That's downright scary.

I really doubt that Reiter already received the summer hatchery steelhead escapement goal to open up for summer run fishing.
I remember last summer, Reiter delayed opening due to late arrival of summer escapment goal.
I belive the same scenario will repeat this summer.

Reitor normally traps a minimuim of 350 plus extra fish to allow for mortality loss steelhead like salmon tend to get frustrated being trapped in concrete runs and run into the concrete walls and end up beating the skin off there noses eventually they will develop a fungus and if not treated promptly they will die , it is hard to treat them as they have to have running water constantly to supply oxegen and the medicine washes away quickly. If reitor was to open early it has to be posted in the newspaper 3 days before it can open , also it will be on wdfw's web page

Well I just wrote the WDFW and told them that should take the Reiter out of there Weekend warrior report that it may lead to allowing people to think that reiter is open.
