My weekend report comes in two installments: bottomfishing 7-10-04 and salmon fishing 7-11-04.

My host and captain for the weekend was my good buddy Katosan. We launched from his slip at the Ocean Shores Marina to bounce some bottomfish out of the rocks nearby using lead head jigs with soft plastic minnow imitations.

Here's my host with a medium sized black rockfish:

We are catching these things almost as fast as we can thow in our lines. Finally I get one that pulled a little harder:

The shaker ling was quickly released. For a little more variety, I came up with this cabezon:

A little while later, Katosan yards up his twin sister:

We put a few more rockfish in the boat before the bite starts to go soft with the rising tide. Time to head in and check the crab pots:

Nice haul of groceries for just a few hours effort! That night we had fresh steamed rockfish and crab with black bean sauce made fresh to order in Katosan's favorite Chinese restaurant.

Next day.... salmon fishing. But you'll have to wait another day for that episode... stay tuned.

Time to grab some ZZZZ's

fNp,
Thanks for the reminder about other critters to target.
Last Sunday those wild coho would hit our baits as we lowered them looking for kings. If this happens again on the next trip, we'll probably switch to bottomfish.

FNP, just got back from Ucluelet , the Salmon fishing was hot, very hot the first day and then died with the sun on monday, still managed to hook several kings though on Monday. Halibut fishing was non-stop action as was the dogfish. We used nothing but Jigs and boy is my arm sore.

Waiting for that Westport report. Funny how there is a person posting about a hole in his gas tank, remember that gas smell in the front of the boat? Well, I think I am going to be cutting the floor to install a new one soon also.

Steve
