Be careful even the cow eats boats. This tree extended a long ways up river only a few inches under water. The only way I could see it was with polarized glasses. Both guys got out ok and we picked up what we could down river and took back to them.

Ouch...glad they got out OK...boats & gear can be replaced...some things can't..

Can the boat be salvaged and saved? Based on the lower pic I don't see any serious damage...maybe drag it out to that bar in the background, pump it out and save it?

I've never fished the Cow, but am looking forward to drifting sections of it next year.

Seems to me, anytime you have a feeder creek (as shown in bottom pic) there is the possibility of not only a bar, but also for debris that has built up, unable to be pushed across the bar by current.

(Note to self: Watch out for feeder creeks!)

O.K. so I'll be the guy to stick my foot in my mouth....

So why the BIG, BIG, SECRET on a very general location as to the location of this boat hazard? I don't see a 20lb. summer run hanging off the boat.

Near Blue Creek? By I-5? Near Massey Bar?

Wow I guess I have less then 24 hours to respond before negative post start flying. To tell you the truth I have no idea what this hole is called it was my first time down that far. I know it was above I 5. I was running down river past the Toledo Bridge past the S turns past what I think is called the trailer park hole. The next hole below the trailer park the river makes a 3 way split. This happened on the split on the north side of the river. If you go through on step it’s no problem but if you try to drift fish the nice looking clay bank you could get into big trouble in a hurry.

That spot is definetly the worst spot on the cowlitz it is tough even on the right or left side and very deceiving coming into it Hairballs right about it really does not have a name hole wise but is just below the trailer park. I always go down the northside personnely but when the river gets to 2500 cub. I stay away from it period it makes me nervous every time I go thru so why bother, this summer alone I have seen three boats high and dry that have gone up tyhe middle channel that when the water is down to 3500 cubs. have swerved to miss it at the last second not I !!!!PEACE

Ya know, you would think that "someone" would go down that stretch, taking a few small tools with them, and get that SOB out of there and up on the beach high enough to remain there.

Rope, double-pulley, hand-winch?

An hour or two's work could save lives...I live way up north, but if there was one of those on the Skagit (up here) I'm sure a couple of us could get together and move it before someone really gets hurt.
