I can't seem to get the bad fishy smell out of my cooler. Does anyone know of a good way to clean out the horrible smell? I just know that soap and water doesn't work.

It removes cat piss so I can't reason why it wouldn't work on a fish smell?

Buy a cheap 1 lb. can of coffee.
Toss the grounds into the dry cooler...close lid.
Open again in a week. It won't smell bad anymore.
(It's an old truckers trick we used to use after hauling frozen chicken in a reefer trailer...aweful smell from the froz. cluckers, but the coffee took care of it!)

10% Chlorine solution.... it'll get that liner nice and white again too. Fill bottom 1-2" of the cooler, scrub with gloved hand. Close lid for 30 minutes, then repeat the scrub and soak.
Dump the solution, rinse with a hose, and let air dry overnight with lid open.... all chlorine vapor will evaporate.

Ditto what fnp said. I've used bleach for years and never had problems with the cooler's stinking. Just cleaned out a stinker Saturday that had sat in the sun for a day and smelled to high heaven. Smells fine now.

After you clean out your cooler, take a paper towel and splash some Vanilla on it. Wipe down the inside of your cooler with the vanilla.
The vanilla will mask the resident "funk" smell left over in the cooler.

I just use lemon scented dish soap, and it seems to work pretty well. You want to let it get completely dry before you close the lid.

Toss in half a pound of bacon and let er sit for a month. I "gaarrruntee" you won't smell the fish any more after that. All the dogs in the neighborhood will be your friend though.

Yes, do exactly what the doc prescribed, it not only will keep it clean, but it will be sanitized to put your cold ones in later.

For get it, it's toast. I suggest throwing a weekends worth of fish offal into it. Leave it in the sun for three days. Then park with it in the back of a pickup in Neah Bay. The cooler and the smell will magically disappear.
