Just read this article from the local paper that made my stomach turn. I hope they throw the book at these people. I can't understand how they thought they could get away with raping our natural resourse like this. They should lose their boat, license, equipment etc.....big fine and get lots of jail time.

This is the 12th commercial violation for one of the men. Exactly how many violations does it take before he loses his boat and license?

I wonder what would happen to one of us if we got caught poaching 12 times?

I just love this quote:

"Meanwhile, commercial poaching won't affect recreational crabbing, Burton said."

What an idiotic statement. Can anyone think of a way that it WON'T affect recreational crabbing?

How many times does it take to get these people? There's something going on that's just not right which makes it possible for these idiots to even be on the water, much less to operate a commercial fishing vessel after so many offenses.

Is it loop holes in the laws governing these guys? "Good lawyers"? A combo of both? I just don't get it!

Like KerryS wonders, what if a recreational fisherman was caught poaching a dozen times. I doubt he'd be allowed anywhere near a fishery. As well he shouldn't.

I wonder what these guy's peers think about the situation. I can't imagine they're too proud of their fellow crabber. He essentially took money out of their pockets and made them look bad.

What do sportfishers get out of this type of deal? Shorter opennings and fewer limits I guess. We all take the hit in the end! \:\(

A sports fisher would have had his boat, truck and gear confiscated.

It's just another blantant double-standard as to laws that govern harvest & the enforcement of these laws designed to protect our resources when applied to commercial activities vs. sportsmen.

Who are the judges that allowed him to retain his gear/vessel & especially LICENCE!

These are the people who would look real pretty in a crab pot about 30 ft down!
