The city of Mukilteo has a $7M Master plan to redesign the Lighthouse park, with most options eliminating the boat launch from the park, lessening the launch options for fisherman and recreational boaters in the area. The Last thing we need is less boat launches, if anything we need a few more on the east sound.
You all know I use the launch quite a bit and have expressed my dissatisfaction of the launch due to it's location, exposure, lack of city maintenance, etc. , but I dont want to see it dissappear.
The park should be redesigned with the launch at the very south end of the park. This launch location would be less exposed to wind and waves, and open up Edwards point to pedestrian traffic aorund the ligthouse.
Well, that isn't the plan at this point folks. The tone and language used in the city's master plan suggest their favoring removing the launch altogether.
What about all those people with 10-14 foot boats who like to fish Humpy Hollow? What will happen to the Everett Launch if during peak season 100-150 more boaters in the north end are forced to launch there? Do we start launching at Edmonds and pay 28 bucks just to get the boat wet?
This sucks. The City of Mukilteo really needs to understand the regional impacts their decisions have if they choose not to replace the Launch. Next week I am going to find out who we can write to about this issue...stay tuned.
