The city of Mukilteo has a $7M Master plan to redesign the Lighthouse park, with most options eliminating the boat launch from the park, lessening the launch options for fisherman and recreational boaters in the area. The Last thing we need is less boat launches, if anything we need a few more on the east sound.

You all know I use the launch quite a bit and have expressed my dissatisfaction of the launch due to it's location, exposure, lack of city maintenance, etc. , but I dont want to see it dissappear.

The park should be redesigned with the launch at the very south end of the park. This launch location would be less exposed to wind and waves, and open up Edwards point to pedestrian traffic aorund the ligthouse.

Well, that isn't the plan at this point folks. The tone and language used in the city's master plan suggest their favoring removing the launch altogether.

What about all those people with 10-14 foot boats who like to fish Humpy Hollow? What will happen to the Everett Launch if during peak season 100-150 more boaters in the north end are forced to launch there? Do we start launching at Edmonds and pay 28 bucks just to get the boat wet?

This sucks. The City of Mukilteo really needs to understand the regional impacts their decisions have if they choose not to replace the Launch. Next week I am going to find out who we can write to about this issue...stay tuned.

Here is the link to the city website where you can DL the master park plan.

Well... let's see. We eliminated McConnells, Norma Beach (pick whatever name you remember it as) and Andersons in the area.

Only ones left are Everett, Mukilteo and the sling launch at Edmonds.

No boat launch...What? These City Planners are truly missing the boat!

Even with the poor condition of the existing ramp, many boaters value that it's there and they use it in big numbers.

The fact that a launch isn't in their plans doesn't make much sense. The only reason I can come up with is that a properly designed and positioned new ramp with a safe dock would just be too popular and they doubt they could handle the parking demand.

What ever the reasons are I think eliminating the launch is a bad idea!

$7 million??? Gimme a break. I doubt you'll see that much spent on a park. Could have a kick ass launch with that much money.

You might want to do more checking. The last plan was to move the launch north of the ferry terminal and make it a larger launch in an area with less of a current.

In some of the concept plan drawings for the new park project it says, " Boat Launch Relocated to the Tank Farm."

I spoke with Heather M. from the city of Mukilteo today. She indicates that the current plan is to either have a new launch built at the park with reduced parking, or to have the launch relocated at the Tank farm north of the Ferry launch. Site is undetermined at this point becasue the Port of Everett still has to divvy up the 20 acre parcel between Washington state ferries, Sound transit, new Marina, and boat launch.

Either way Mukilteo will have a launch, but will have reduced parking from it's current state. This is unfortunate because the need for this launch is growing, evident by the number of trailers now parked in the lawn at the park and overflow onto the surrounding streets.

Also if they improve the launch more people will use it rather than going to Everett. Less parking is really a bad idea!

More info on plans for the old Tank Farm in today's paper: http://www.heraldnet.com/stories/04/08/11/loc_mukilteo001.cfm

Looks like there's going to be some trouble ahead divvying up this pie!
