You sure can tell Orting has a McDonalds and Taco Time now. Most of you Carbon Kingers leave their advertisements all over the river bank. PICK UP YOUR CRAP!

I drove by there on the 1st about 530am. Must have been at least 100 rigs parked near there. I loved all the ones parked right next to the "emergency parking only" sign. I use to fish the carbon every chance I got. Not anymore. I did not even see anyone walking out with a fish and I passed by there 4 times in two days. I think I am about to give up my days of combat fishing. My temper is not so good anymore.

Hey Jim, where you been? Long time no post.
Went down there today, hardly any crowd, hardly any fishies. Lots of Gamies though. Officer friendly was out there checking them barbs, yeee haaa.
No berries for Dan S.
I did see a couple of real (no bs) chromers late in the day. One nice King Buck and a Silver. When the buck came up on shore, officer friendly broke out the binoculars so I had the dude hold up the fish and show him the scar (if this doesn't make any sense to you then read yer regs).
All others that I saw were total boots. But, "that'll smoke up fine", especialy after it lays on the beach for a few hours.

The Carbon River is in the Orting Valley. Take Hwy 512 or 167 to Hwy 410. 410 to the Valley Ave / Orting exit. Go right at the end of the off ramp (south). When you cross the Puyallup river the second time (Old concrete bridge) Carbon dumps into the Puyallup River about 200 yards east. Carbon river is on the east side of Valley ave. You can see it at the base of the ridge to the east. Continue into the North end of Orting and you will see all the cars parked along the road. Good walk in and out.

Oh, If you don't catch anything, you can go thru Orting to the east and stop at the hatchery to look in the retaining pool. Cry in your soda as you look in the lunkers that swam by your corkies.

I have been lurking a little. Mainly hunting this year. I have been by the Carbon several times since my post and the cars are getting fewer. Except the weekend mornings. So far I have yet to see a fish brought out of the Carbon. It has not been a very good summer for me. First I hurt my back, then I fight a cold all summer. Then I fall and break a couple of ribs. Next I face surgery on my shoulder for the third time on the 21st. Kind of hard to cast for any lenght of time. I don't want to fish around crowds now because I have to chuck side arm. That rules out the Carbon. I even hear the Puyallup is slow. Altough I spoke with some tribal netters and watched the sale two weekends. They had a ton of fish. I mean an actual ton of fish and then some. Biggest i saw was 37lbs. One netter said he had a huge fish in his net three times and it kept falling out. Poor him.

If you looked at Voights Creek around the opener and right now you would see that the water in the creek is really high. Infact it looked like it does in October or November. Because of this the fish are not stacking below the creek like they usually do, so there are less fish in the river.

Some good news though. I saw a good number of bright silvers caught down in Sumner on the Puyallup. It's good to see silvers coming in early, should be a great year like last year.

Jim, does your shoulder problem make you stutter? \:D
I went to the hatchery Sunday and there were hardly any fish in the catch pond. This run has yet to realy get going. The way things are working, I might get one, maybe two more chances to fish this scene. I am only going to be back in town a few more times before moving the Wife and the rest of the brood down here to Medford. Then it's Alohhhh Ha to the Carbon for me. Unless I get a wild hair up my butt or something. ;\)
Soooo,,, Stay tuned for some Rogue reports and stuff.
Dan, the boats are starting to show up above Savage Rapids, whatever that means.

They might have cleared the pond already too. They don't wait for the entire run to come in before clearing it out.
