A question from the masses: The last 3 times we have been to Neah Bay the bite has been intense for the first two hours, then dies to practically nothing. But if I can ever get out past Tatoosh it seems to go on all day at a slower but more steady pace. Last time there it was really noticable....insane activity until 8:30 AM and then nothing after that.
Anyone else experience this???

I guess the moral of my post is that you want to hit this area as early in the AM as possible.

Find a good rip, it can be every bit as productive as th AM bite. Gutz and I will out there this weekend. If your around, hail the BALLARD HO' on 68.

Fished a total of 5 days there this year (so far - gotta make another trip next weekend for the close of the new opener). I'm with Gutz on this one - find a rip - catch fish all day. I could only fish 3 in my boat and took 4 kids with me so we took turns - the mid-morning/afternoon/evening trips were every bit as productive as early morning trips. The rip that forms from Chibabdehl Rocks and runs diagonally out to Duncan Rock was especially productive.

Went deeper later - 70 feet on the DR and 45 pulls with a 6-oz lead/herring. But also caught them right on the surface after reeling in the herring while landing other fish. Those silvers are feeding so agressively this time of year out there you can't really go wrong - just hoping for good weather.

Cohos are very sensitive to light and will go deeper as the day brightens. Try fishing deeper when they quit biting, it might very well be that they are still around but have gone a little deeper.

I second OceanSun. I have also had great bites at 4 pm (after arriving fr. Seattle). Find a rip and hang on.
