hey Zambi the reason people floss these fish 98% of the time is because they arent using 1. fresh bai. ( they leave there eggs on all day until something takes them off). 2. they are using big arse hooks (easier for snagging).

I go down there using light gear and get away from the people as much as possible. I use either straight eggs or shrimp and roll my bait. it seems to work pretty good. give it a shot and you should be surprised.

P.S with that dirty water you should be changing your bait every 3 drifts

If you have a small boat you can go down below the bridge and fish the estuary. Some will give you crap but I believe it is legal to fish below the bridge for cutts as long as you are not intentionally targeting the kings. This will get you away from the snag fest. Use a fly rod with a floating line with typical cutthroat flies like Knutson spiders, a spruce or bait fish patterns and you can pretty much stay away from the kings which will be cruising along the bottom.

Since trout are open in marine waters year round, and you would be using trout gear (i.e. 6wt fly rod and SRC flies or light trout gear and 4-6 pound test). Also, if you head up river from all the salmon anglers and gain access from some of the bridges, wade the river until you find the SRCs.
