Have you caught or not caught?

In freshwater I have not caught Burbot or a Golden trout.

I will have to think about the salt for a few minutes.

Never caught a golden trout, a northern pike, or a tiger muskie. Probably got just about all the other freshwater species covered but not many of the saltwater other than anadramous ones and a few sea bass, lingcod, and rockfish.

You have done much better than I have. Of the 91 species listed in the latest version of Inland Fishes of Washington (Wydoski and Whitney) I have only caught 46 on rod and reel.

It is interesting in that 15 more species were listed in the new version (2004) over the older one (released 1979). A couple of the species are the result of species splitting but most are new exotics.

does that list include a species of puffer fish. i caught one a few years ago off of ala spit on a pink buzz bomb. i thought it was a non-native species, but not sure.

Salmoncatcher-
The 91 species were those found in freshwater.

I don't know much about most of the salt water species except there are lots of them. I seem to recall that a boxfish is found in Puget Sound which is somewhat like a puffer - there maybe puffers as well - maybe someone else with more extensive background in marine fishes can help out.

Boxfish isn't a puffer, they don't have the ability to puff up. They are odd looking kinda like a clothes iron someone turned into a fish. They are a popular saltwater aquarium fish when small.

I guess I should have pondered a little more before posting... I haven't seen the list of 91 freshwater species so I guess I might have missed quite a few more! Is there a list of the 91 available online anywhere?

That list includes fish like the Stickleback and other fish you could not imagine catching on a hook. We used to catch them in a farm pond as a kid. Real small hook and a bit of worm.

How about we stick to the fish listed in the regs. That should narrow it down a bit both fresh and salt.
