Someone was asking about catching snoho coho on another thread. Here is a photo from this morning. You be the judge!

I agree that the bite is fickle, but you are not going to catch them unless you get out there!

Three top methods.
1. Dick nite in size 1 or "wee". Casting the spoon in softwatrer areas.
2. Casting plugs such as fatfish or brads wiggler in green or red colors.
3. Trolling soft water areas UP STREAM with the same plugs as above.

Nice pic! Question though for anybody who cares to answer: I've noticed that on the Dick Nite spoons, the stock hooks are pretty small and weak. Do you guys switch them out? And if so, do you replace them with the same size siwash?

You do not need to switch out the hooks on these dick nites. They are small but stronger than you might think. I've caught coho to 21.5 lbs on them fished right out of the package!

So I had a quick question for you east side of the water fishers, I have never fished the Snohomish system and am not sure on the hatchery/wild fish situation on that system.
I'm certainly not flaming, so please do not get the wrong idea. How strong is the wild run in that system? It appears all but 1 or maybe two of those fish are unclipped, is the wild component that strong throughout the system? Is there a tribal/coop hatchery that does not clip? Certainly if the wild run is that strong, then I see no problem keeping them, just curious.

Nice pics, hope to get a few for me tomorrow.

Here are the estimates from WDFW:

http://www.wdfw.wa.gov/fish/northfalcon/coho.htm

Looks like the Snohomish has 11,000 hatchery and 192,000 wild returners projected.

Healthy? Not sure what defines healthy.

NEN- The snohomish has a huge population of wild fish as well as a ton of unclipped hatchery fish! Just go up to the wallace hatchery and you will see that there is probably more unclipped hatchery fish than clipped.

Thanks for the Info. Sounds like there is almost 18 wild fish to every hatchery. So 1 in 12 ain't bad. Kinda makes you wonder why they are raising hatchery coho when there are that many wild fish already.

Thanks again,

The stock Dick Nite hooks are sh!t.

You can land a big fish on one if you are in a sled on the Snohomish, but if you hook one off the bank of the Satsop, that fish is going to destroy that wimpy-ass hook.

I switch them out with these fly hook I pilfer from my step-dad. They're small and light but much stronger than the factory Dick Nite hooks. It takes a small, light hook for the spoon to have proper action, so you can't use some big Gammy siwash.

Glad to see someone had luck. Was there Sat at first light and only had a fish on for 5 seconds. Pretty quiet otherwise. The guy beside me had no luck too but in the same spot on Friday had easy limits on cohos.

Heard there was a 20lb king CnR'd in a hole upstream.

Talked to Steeladdict and we were in the same dilema. Wanted to keep fishing but how do you release 15-16lb chrome silvers. Hooked close to 20 fish this morning before finally deciding it was time to tag out. I know steeladdict was in his boat, but you don't have to be. All my action was from the bank on dnites. Good luck to everyone and with no rain in the next few days it should stay incredible.

Heading over there Tuesday with Tom J. I can't wait! It'll be nice to fish with light gear instead of flashers in the salt. I love this time of year!!

I hope the boat ramp at Snohomish is still there???

Wish I could join you guys but I have been stuck up here in New Hampshire fishing for Brookies and Rainbows with a few browns to throw into the mix. It has been great using stoneflies on the Pemigwasset river or how you spell it I couldnt tell you. I am awaiting the pictures from my buddy but as soon as I get them I will post them. Hooked a 18 inch brookie weighed close to 1.5 lbs . All the rest were between 10 and 12 with a few browns around 14 but pretty much all the fish were small but it was real fun. There is nothing the rivers up here. You guys think you have it good try New Hampshire at the end of September. I thought Washington was beautiful. There is nothing like sitting on a river with the leaves turning it is the most beautiful sceneray it is breathtaking I cant wait to come home on Wednesday and hit the river. I dont know how the fishing has been up there but according to the reports addict and canyon have been nailing them. Well I got to go to bed here soon my dad is taking me for stripers in the morning off the coast of maine

Fish ON
