Anyone notice the number of Coho returning over Lower Granite this year?

Well over 20X the 10 year average, discounting last year's run, which was over twice (a record!) the average!

Knowing where they hang on the Peninsula's rivers, I know I won't catch them in the drift at the mouth of the Grand Ronde. Still, you never know!

Here's to the first hat trick! Can't wait to hear about it. \:\)

I listened to a presentation by a fisheries guy from the Nez Perce Tribe a couple of years ago. He said that they were working with various states to establish a Coho run on the Grande Ronde. Some of these fish might stray into the Clearwater and of course would have to pass through the Snake. Maybe they started already. He was talking fishable number of Coho in about a decade if I remember correctly.

yep, there is coho that run up into the clearwater, for the tribes only, if a non-tribal member catches one in the clearwater, it must be released, why should this be, i dunno, but the tribes have that state fisheries by the cahuna's, ive heard of reports, when i was fishing for steelies back in 2002, that a few were caught just down from ahsahka.. there is also 1.5 million "native" stealhead released from dworshak national fish hatchery, again, for only the tribes use.. i seen many of them caught, with adipose still intact..

The Nez Pierce tribe has built a small hatchery between Lenore and Cherry lane that is for Coho production only. It has been in operation for approx 3 years now. This is on the Clearwater not the Rhonde. Looks like its starting to produce some returning fish.
