I know its not very popular but I like Ron Fairly.

In fact I'll trade you twenty Dave Henderson's for one Ron Fairly.

He brings the history of an era into the booth with him every game. Yes, a dozen 'that was good pitch to hit right there's' in a row can get maddening BUT the guy consistently tells stories about the great players, coaches and managers from a baseball era that was before my time. The guy played with, roomed with and lived with some of the greatest players the game has ever seen, if we get just three or four of those stories a year out of Red i figure we are getting our monies worth.

You get from Red exactly what you got out of him as a player on the field, consistency, above average performance, and longevity... all while playing a pretty easy position.

Red's contributions are anecdotal. Don't look for any pseudo-intellectual Joe Morganisms from Red either, that's not his game.

I have to agree. I think he as actually gotten better over the years. He still tends to beat a dead horse from time to time, but I think now he at least listens when someone else in the booth tells him to let it go. His voice doesn't get that fingernails down the chalkboard response that it once did.

He is bearable now where before I could not even handle him...however, I have never enjoyed his play-by-play.

Bone needs some polishing but I do enjoy his brutal honesty!

When the "Safe" was new, I remember Ron asking Niehouse what he thought about the frequent blasting of the train horns. (I find it obnoxious).

Niehouse said that it added a certain "romance" to the ballpark. I was laughing to myself that if there was a feed lot next door, Niehouse would say the stench added an "ambiance".

Don't get me wrong, I LIKE Dave Niehouse. (even if I can't spell his name)

I think that if Ron were to comment about game on the radio for the M's he'd probably be an M's radio commentator?

I also think the team that scores the most runs usually will win the game

I listen to a lot of games on the radio therefore would I be a radio listener?

I have no idea what P Martin's getting at, but ...

Mr. Fairly is affectionately known around our house as the Master of the Obvious! I wish Hendu would make it easier to like his commentary, but argh.

Caught a couple innings of tonights exhibition game, Freddy Garcia looked good unfortunately I had to listen to Ron (Fairly Awful) for those 2 innings.
Sure glad he doesn't do Sonic's games. Basketball is what I prefer to watch and Calabro is (IMHO) the best in the business, TNT and NBC have been trying to get him out of Seattle for years, doubt Fairly is wanted anywhere else.

Well said Stlhdh20. I don't mind Ron Fairly. I'd rather hear someone tell it like it is, than try too hard to sound like an expert. I think Neihause and Fairly make a good combo. Plus, there's nothing like some consistency and familiarity to broadcasters. The musical chairs that the Seahawks are playing is hard to understand...

Nothing like being out on the sound salmon fishing with the radio on listening to the M's.

PMartin,
I guess I forgot to add my \:D so you'd know it was just to set up my next line.

But while we are talking, you over use the guy hitting his head on the wall. IMHO
