...etcetera...
Went and picked forty gallons of early gold apples yesterday, thirty for the pigs and ten for ourselves...
I've got two gallons of apple butter on the boil, I figure I'll put up a couple more of apple sauce...then what?
world's biggest apple betty? c'mon ladies.....
the story on the apples is pretty cool. a few years ago i was fishing along the hoh river and got a little lost back in the woods tryin to work my way out. I came around a corner and smelled thick rotting apples. Next corner i found about six apple trees laden with rotten apples....and surrounded by bear shi* heavily consisting of apple peels.
peeeeow!
went back a lil earlier this year when my friend mentioned his mom's earlies were going off. goin back tuesday to get as many more as i can, next batch is strictly for the pigs.
might get 100 gals next trip....
So...a crisp for dinner and a pie tomorrow night, a gallon or two of apple butter, a gallon or two of apple sauce...wtf else am i going to do with all these apples?
.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Bake a bunch. Then freeze what you can't eat fresh. Pretty good late-night grub right out of the freezer. And if you're not pressed for time, eat one of those apple-fed pigs.

i need a press for that and none of my internet searching has yielded an idea for building my own...
the guy i picked with has one...maybe we'll dedicate the next run to all cider...
did some wandering in the back yard today and found a pear tree just loaded with fruit. Looks like about thirty years since its been pruned though so the fruits are a little on the small side. prolly take three years to prune it back right. same with all the apple trees...
still....anyone had pear preserves with raisins and almonds?....or pear brandy?
blackberries are just popping today...got a handful this morning and a handful this evening.
two gallons of butter canned up so far!

Yeah........you can stop any time now. I was out in the garage earlier, and this is really killing me to hear about your far-flung smorgasboard you're enjoying up there. There are a thousand things you can make with pears. Most of them are good, too. Or, if you're not in a big hurry, feed some to the pigs and eat one of them.

Leave them where they fall and nail the bear during bow season in a few weeks. Bear are beeter than pork some say specifically when feed apples, pears and Blackberries prior to harvest. I shoot one here every few years feeding on wild apples. We do the same as you with the apples and have so many we feed the horses and steer the rest.

There were at least a half dozen fresh piles of bear shi* in the area consisting almost entirely of apple skins.
...and three 'winter apple' trees that might be a good spot to stake out come bear season.
