Here's something a friend e-mailed to me. I have no time nor inclination to verify it nor disclaim it. It does look like someone could do it with a little web research, especially Kerry's voting record.

Can You Name This Country?

709,000 REGULAR (ACTIVE DUTY) PERSONNEL.

293,000 RESERVE TROOPS.

EIGHT STANDING ARMY DIVISIONS.

20 AIR FORCE AND NAVY AIR WINGS WITH 2,000 COMBAT AIRCRAFT.

232 STRATEGIC BOMBERS.

19 STRATEGIC BALLISTIC MISSILE SUBMARINES WITH 3,114 NUCLEAR WARHEADS ON 232 MISSILES.

500 ICBMs WITH 1,950 WARHEADS.

FOUR AIRCRAFT CARRIERS AND 121 SURFACE COMBAT SHIPS AND SUBMARINES
PLUS ALL THE SUPPORT BASES, SHIPYARDS, AND LOGISTICAL ASSETS NEEDED TO SUSTAIN SUCH A NAVAL FORCE.

IS THIS COUNTRY:

RUSSIA? NO

CHINA? NO

GREAT BRITAIN? NO

FRANCE? WRONG AGAIN

MUST BE USA? STILL WRONG

GIVE UP?

THESE ARE THE AMERICAN MILITARY FORCES THAT WERE ELIMINATED DURING THE ADMINISTRATION OF BILL CLINTON AND AL GORE.

John Kerry on Defense -- I hadn't seen this list printed before. It would make one heck of a mailer if it were sent to voters.

He voted to kill the Bradley Fighting Vehicle
He voted to kill the M-1 Abrams Tank
He voted to kill every aircraft carrier laid down from 1988.
He voted to kill the Aegis anti aircraft system
He voted to Kill the F-15 Strike Eagle
He voted to Kill the Block 60 F-16
He voted to Kill the P-3 Orion upgrade
He voted to Kill the B-1
He voted to Kill the B-2
He voted to Kill the Patriot Anti Missile System
He voted to Kill the FA-18
He voted to Kill the B-2
He voted to Kill the F117

In short, he voted to kill every military appropriation for the development and deployment of every weapons systems since 1988 to include the battle armor for our troops. With Kerry as president our Army will be made up of naked men running around with sticks and clubs.

He also voted to kill all anti terrorism activities of every agency of the U.S. Government and to cut the funding of the FBI by 60%, to cut
the funding for the CIA by 80%, and cut the funding for the NSA by 80%.

But then he voted to increase OUR funding for U.N operations by 800%!!!

The United States gives $13.3 billion tax dollars in direct Foreign Aid annually. The United States is above and beyond the single most generous benefactor of the United Nations, donating $2.4 billion dollars of OUR money, to primarily third-world dictators.

This amount is 25% of the United Nations budget. In addition, the United States also gives another $1.4 billion tax dollars to United Nations' programs and agencies. The American taxpayers fund more for the United Nations than ALL of the other 177 member nations COMBINED.

John "Pierre" Kerry was actually for all those Defense Dept. weapons systems, and intelligence gathering bills BEFORE he was against them.

Except for increasing funding to the U.N. by 800% and giving France a final say in whether or not we (the USA) can protect our interests--that's just about the only political position he won't change for political expediency.

this thing has been quadruple snoped on this site alone. have you ever been to snopes.com kj? it debunks internet rumors and misinformation with no particular bent, imo.

what's wrong with posting your own opinions guys instead of hiding behind someone else's?

you might try picking better cover next time.

No, Aunty, it was meant as only that-- a drive by. After spending all day working at a computer and most of the evening, one of the last things I want to do is list anything for anyone. Sorry if you're anxious to rebut-- besides that thread seemed to turn into a name-calling thing, and that's where I tend to drop out. I'll shoot at ideas, but I don't do people. It's just too easy to mock Kerry fans... \:D

Even though I have some nasty deadlines today, I will try to get it done.

closest i can see to name calling is where gh calls your post pathetic. That would be an idea, not a person.

Geez-- sorry I have to work for a living. I really am jammed up, but here's a reply to most of the recent issues.

One, I didn't see anyone insulting me personally-- I just don't like the threads where folks feel its necessary to launch personal attacks on others. I feel ideas are fair game, and I take no offense if anyone says my idea is faulty, but I don't like seeing the debate turn into personal sniping from either side. I've seen a lot of that from liberals AND conservatives and tend to lose interest in a thread quickly if it starts in that direction.

I do figure that Kerry and Bush are fair game for fair sniping since they are very public figures. I don't think it's productive to debate to be insulting about either the President or Kerry, but that's my opinion. While I might take "potshots" at Kerry defenders in general, I don't do it usually for any result but to show humor as in the above post, and I really try not to insult anyone (Kerry and Bush excepted, of course).

H20-- No, I didn't check anything out in snopes or moveon.org or make any attempt to do so, as I mentioned at the beginning of this thread. I was just passing along an e-mail I received.

Aunty-- I figured mocking GW's fans was your job...

As for promised links-- I just lost a post with three of them on it, and I'm not sure why. I'll try again later when I've actually produced something useful that will help pay my bills, since tax day is already past.

Two items popped up in the Peninsual Daily News that would apply to the "GW's administration is doing something to promote fishing" thread recently-- in today's Port Townsend edition, there was a stand-alone photo of work on the Hoh where they are re-installing log jams to help in flood control/salmon habitat (this ties into the "leading scientists thread") and yesterday (?) a piece on the moving of Caspian terns from the mouth of the Columbia (where the buggers eat something like $20,000 of ESA smolt each). Unfortunately, one of the places the dunderheads want to establish a colony is on Dungeness Spit. Neither has a link, though, so I guess they don't count.

And to be really fair to both Republicans and Democrats-- the stuff such as the two examples above, the bull trout thing I mentioned, all of the U.S.F.W.S. projects that GW can take credit for (using the logic of this board) would probably have happened under Kerry or Gore if he'd garnered the electoral votes he needed.

Well, work calls,

Keith

"snopes or moveon.org "

you've obviously never been to the site. had you, you would realize that it has no political affiliation or motivation. its sole purpose is to debunk internet bs such as what you posted.

that you would lump snopes.com with moveon is truly indicative of your desire to spread patently false information. Shouldn't come as any surprise really given righty's predilection for deception. Some opf moveon's and micheal moore's stuff (the stuff that can)is fully debunked on the site.

If someone on the left were as quick to post such drivel AND it had been snoped someone would certainly say so. The thing is, lefty doesn't need to use deception to prove that Dumbya is a worthless POS, all you have to do is pay attention.

Funny...looks like clinton kept the war machine plenty warmed up as we are fighting wars in two countries utilizing all branches of the military. When Dumbya declared victory on the deck of that ship he didn' say 'and we could have done it faster if clinton hadn't turned you into a bunch of pussies'. It IS what I am hearing you say though.

Does it amaze anyone else that 'fiscal conservatives' are consistently the one to call for spending more money than we have? Remember a lil thing called a surplus? Welll....clinton somehow managed to maintain the readiness of our forces AND keep the budget in the black.

The last republican to do that was..............................................................................................................................................???

Tell ya what....I'll give credit to Bush Sr. for getting that ball rolling by increasing taxes (the 'no new taxes' tax). Cost him re-election though, didn't it? He alienated his base by actually trying to tell them truth...someone has to pay for all this.

go to snopes. familiarize yourself with its non-partisan debunking mission. see where what you posted is bs and try again next time. Its pretty much all you can do when your stuff is, I'll say it again, patently false.

Do you remember a lil' thing called 9/11/01?

It was the eplosion of computer software, the internet, dot com's and tele-communications that fuled the sky-rocketing stock market, the economy and amount of taxes paid by businesses and individuals. Someone as anti-business as Dennis Kuscinich, Phil Donahue or even John "Pierre" Kerry could have been president and we would have had surplus'.

I'm not sure how implementing 'don't assk-don't tell' helped to maintain the readines of our forces.....butt ---

Clinton also managed to refuse to take the CIA's suggestion to take out Osama bin Laden, and respond to the first attack on the World Trade Center, USS Cole and other overt acts of terrorism against America and Americans. This complacency lead Osama bin Laden to think we were a "paper tiger" that refused to fight. That complacency cost us 1000's of American lives and billions of dollars in fighting the war on terror.

The fact that Clinton was too busy playing "hide the cigar" to address the growing terrorist threat is what enboldened OBL and his hench-men to plan and execute the 9/11/01 attacks.

That's right, increasing taxes is always the answer.

Wise or sheer idiocy....???

It still plays well on TV! \:D
------------------------------------------------------------

That's a very astute observation!

Just because something 'plays well on TV' doesn't make it good or beneficial for America and her economy.

Jerry Springer gets very high ratings by 'playing well on TV' to the lowest common denomintor---Does his highly rated show benefit America?

Sales and salesmanship is something I can speak on with authority.

It doesn't matter whether it's yourself, a TV show or a product or service--anybody can put the voters, viewers and buyer(s) on the fence, being able to consistantly push them over to a given side of your chosing is what separates the men from the boys.

Aunty... while I didn't yet get everything I promised, here are a few links:

Well, they were supposed to be links... sorry about that. Cut and paste can be a pain.

If I can find the article on Bush's visit to the PNW when he talked about Gary Loomis' Fish First project on the Lewis, I'll send that along. I saw one article in the Vancouver Columbian, and I've talked to Loomis in detail on his program, actually Fish First's program. Unlike the government verbiage in the above releases, it has some interesting things to say. It also does a good job of describing (at least I remember it does) Loomis' program, which would be a good model for actually accomplishing something in fisheries enhancement.

Sorry to be abrupt, but it's not a good week.

Pretty pathetic how you keep using the 9/11 tragedy for politcal gain. But, then again, it is definitive GOP. You guys have no shame.

Stop, please! Everytime you try to discuss the military you sound even more ignorant than before. You haven't fricken clue what military policy is all about. But chickenhawks never do. The rest of your post is nothing but ill-informed sound bites from Rush, Hannity, Savage, et al.
