Some good games this past week. It was good to see the Cougs come around in the second half. It appears the Huskies are headed down the Gilby road to perdition. What a shame for a once natl powerhouse to lose to Fresno state? The best game was OSU and LSU. It proved the old adage if you let a team hang around lonfg enough it will bite you. I thought OSU got tired at the end.

Don't worry TK.......we'll improve enough through the season to hang #7 on you in November. Man, I love college football season!

The Pac is always a tough go. FSU is a decent team, but you're not going to gift ANYBODY 21 points and win in D1A football. Now against a D1AA school (like WSU likes to schedule for OOC games), you might pull it off. Looks to me like the Dawgs and the Cougs could both use some work on the offensive side of the football. We could also use a hammer to hit our coach in the head with.

Hmmmm......I guess FSU isn't the patsy some in the Pac have made them out to be. They steamrolled K-State just like they steamrolled UW last week.
And how 'bout those Beavs? They got SMOKED by Boise State. Anderception lived up to his nickname in that one.
Cougs had some trouble on offense today, too. The D looks good but the offense is weak. Reminds me of the problems UW is having.

That's nothing! How about the Pondcrappers getting sunk by Indiana??? In basketball, you wouldn't have to think about killing yourself over it, but FOOTBALL?? And all the crap I heard last year from Duck fans when UW had trouble putting IU away. She's a topsy-turvy world in CFB this year.

KK, I hear you. You should feel good about your Irish taking it to my Wolverines. But I still say UM RULES! I'll support the Maize and Blue 'til the day they put me six feet under with the same passion that I did in their 1997 undefeated National Championship season or the Saturday in 2004 when they were walking off the field beaten 28-20 by the Irish!!

It's been a replay of Gilbys time at Cal. the program will stay in the toilet as long as he is there. They have lost 3 recruiting years now.

Face it, Montlake's a mess. This whole debacle started with Gerberding and Hedges and their apparent lack of interest in the health of Husky football. Watching UW lose is nothing new to me. I've been a Husky fan long enough to see a few bad years. But what I see now isn't just bad football, it's a lack of intensity and enthusiasm. 400 phucking yards to ONE running back???? WTF is that?! Lambright would have eaten every single player alive for such a performance. And who goes for a friggin' FIELD GOAL when you're down by 30? I used to like Gilbertson. He seemed a creative offensive mind. But his play calling in the last 3 games hasn't left me impressed, in fact it's got me wondering WTF he's thinking. OK, rant off. I couldn't keep the liquor going long enough not to say anything.............I mean, I'm not a Coug. :p There are some bright spots. Joe Lobendahn is an animal, Kenny James looks solid...........oh, and we have the Cougs on our schedule. We can count on that one. Hate to say it, but besides USC, the rest of the Pac is pretty weak. Even the whimpering Dawgs should pick off a few of the rest.

Dawg gone! Dan, come clean, you wish deep down that you were a Coug........ at least then you would be 3-1, instead of 0-3 soon to be 0-4 ( 12 point under dawgs) ouch! Forget "Tequila", how about "Home For The Holidays" GO COUGS!

Who might the pups find to beat up on? The Cougs? It's worked the last 6 years in a row, don't see why this year should be any different? :p Live it up Cougs..........WSU has been getting it done when it counts, and I've almost forgotten what it looks like to have my team reach down and grab a win. But remember that clowning a bad team that's beat yours like a drum recently will only take you so far. Luckily I can take some of my vast Apple Cup fortune and buy liquor with it to numb the sensation of getting shellacked by the Irish.......and the Bulldogs..........and the Bruins............and UNR............and the Bears.........

My Auburn Tigers (yes, I'm from AL.. got drug up here by the wife) are doing pretty well so far. Let's see how they do against Tennessee this weekend, though. If they handl them well, I might start to believe a little of the hype Auburn's gotten so far this year. They seem to get it every year and rarely live up to it.

can you believe the level that the program has sunk? Hoping for a win against San Jose st. it used to be considered a week off. I hope the alumni are writing letters and jamming the phone lines of the AD. I saw Gilby on the news making excuses last night. He said every team except Miami, USC, Fla state have down years and then they build back up. Hey Gilby I remember when the Dogs called a 2 loss season a down year. 04 was a nightmare beyond comprehension an impossiblitiy you loser. Beating San Jose St. is like taking your sister to the prom because all the girls turned you down. Gilby is calling it a date.

Just about used it up this weekend............on Sunday this time. Freakin' Hawks! I usually feel pretty good when the Cougs blow a game and lose........but not when they're playing the pondcrappers. THAT game I want them to win.

Sorta funny, the little team from Boise is ranked higher than any team in the North west. They pounded the Beavs and could pound the Cougs, Dawgs or Ducks as well.. The day is coming when BSU will be a PAC 10 school... The WAC is tired of them already. They have the longest active winning streak in the nation. ( should have lost to BYU however)

I have watched 3 boise state games this year. While they are good they would be a mid level pac 10 team at best the last two seasons. When you have to play big strong programs week in and week out it wears you down. In he WAC BSU plays a lot of fluff and occasionally comes out and plays a big time team. Thats why the polls do not have them ranked high. If you had a 15 game win steak int he Pac 10 Big 10 ACC or Sec you would be ranked # 1

I totally agree. They do play a lot of bad teams. However, the potential is there for them to step up and play bigtime ball. The program has gotten better every year for the past decade.... Hell, I was a Vandal and BSU pisses me off... but it is intresting to see them doing so much with so little.

This should clear the path for the UW to hire a real football coach at the end of the year and start rebuilding the program back to the status they enjoyed during the Don James years. They need an up and commer in the mold of a Bob Stoops.
UW escapes major penalty in latest NCAA ruling
By Bob Condotta Seattle Times staff reporter
E-mail this article Print this article Search archive Most read articles Most e-mailed articles Other links NCAA report on UW infractions (PDF, 217K) The University of Washington escaped major sanctions today when the NCAA issued its ruling on an investigation into gambling and recruiting violations in the school's athletic department. The NCAA had initially charged UW with a lack of institutional control, the most major penalty that can be levied against a school. However, the NCAA downgraded the charge to a "failure to monitor'' as had the Pac-10 Conference earlier this year.
The NCAA largely accepted penalties that UW had self-imposed and that the Pac-10 had accepted earlier this year.
The NCAA also levied no further penalties on former UW football coach Rick Neuheisel, noting that he had been fired by the school for his involvement in two college basketball tournament pools and for initially lying about his participation when asked by the NCAA.
The NCAA report said that the Committee on Infractions, which ruled on the case, "was very troubled by the fact that when he (Neuheisel) was first questioned about his participation in the pool, the former head coach did not provide truthful information.''
The penalties levied against the UW program included a cut in football recruiting visits from 56 to 48 and not allowing the school to use a boat for recruiting for the 2004-05 academic year but did not include any postseason bans or loss of scholarships.
The NCAA extended the cut in the recruiting visits and the ban on using a boat for the 2005-06 academic year as well and also said that the school may not "bank'' the unused visits for use in future years.
The NCAA also extended a probationary period against the school through February 2007.
However, the probation does not include any bans on TV games, postseason appearances or cuts in scholarships.
The NCAA also said that UW will be "publicly reprimanded and censured.''
UW was being investigated for illegal participation in betting pools by coaches and staffers in the athletic department, for illegal contact between a booster and football recruits, and for undercharging 44 football recruits a total of $132 for boat rides during recruiting visits. "We are pleased that the NCAA has concluded its work in this case and found no lack of institutional control,'' said UW athletic director Todd Turner in a statement released by the school. "In most respects, the report is consistent with the findings and penalties of the Pac-10 and it agrees with our own investigation and corrective actions. The extension of the length of the penalties previously imposed by the Pac-10 was not expected but it is no excessive.''
The NCAA said that UW was guilty of failure to monitor because the school "did not provide the appropriate information to coaching and athletic staff members related to NCAA legislation that governs gambling activities and recruiting.''

Hey, that reminds me, who are the puppies going to lose to this weekend? The same team that's going to beat WSU like a drum the weekend after. Hey, TK.............SJSU can say what they want. They got their asses beat just like WSU has for the last 6 years running. What kind of clown calls the team that beat them pussies?

Still wondering where that 2nd win is coming from WSU. They're the only other team that sucks bad enough for UW to win. If we can beat one of your much ballyhooed 10-win teams with a weak team........we should easily beat a sucky WSU team.

Dan, do you think they will fire Gilby at the end of the season? We could use some offensive help in Pullman or at the very least, special team coaching. Lets start the game by giving the number 1 team in the nation 14 points. It was cold at the game, but after that it was down right unbearable!

Not any more. Decided to just fish today without thinking about the Dawgs. Good plan. Check out this fishv Tony landed. The only question now is whether the Cougs will "Coug-It" and resupply my liquor fund by underachieving in the Apple Cup again.

Well Salmo, never fear. This season will be in the rear view mirror soon enough. The fans that are still going to the football games seem to be dealing with it by making fun of the team instead of taking it too seriously. The coug's may as well live it up now, cause Emmert and Turner know what they're doing and actually give a hoot about the footbball program. The UW will be back soon enough. And oh ya, basketball is right around the corner!

The Dawgs are number 1 , Washington leads the nation in turnovers and the Pac-10 with 19 interceptions. Go Cougs!
