I'm going to get killed for posting this but here goes...

Fish are in thick. 15% or so are "chromers", the rest are already starting to show light to moderate color. Water is low, and very clear unless fishing downstream of 200 people kicking up muck. Water temps are in the mid 50's depending on time of day. Fishing is very tide dependant, as well as just completely variable. More fish have moved in over the last three days then probably the previous ten. But no guarantee that you'll take home fish.

Expect super heavy crowds this weekend. The weekdays have been crowded all day as well. Expect beligerant drunks to be hatching around 2pm, with a full swarm by 6 pm. If you bring your kids this weekend try and get away from the crowds.

Tips:

HEAVY LINES Heavy mainlines on baitcasters, use 10-20 pound flouro leaders, or Yo Zuri hybrid line as leader material(my fav). These are big fish, probably averaging 16 pounds this year. I have had 5 fish over twenty pounds for only 7 days of fishing.

FOLLOW YOUR FISH. Follow your gawd damm fish if he goes downstream. Don't stand with your feet planted and say stupid crap like "well I guess he's going to break me off". Chase him down, gain line, move his head, let people know your coming up or going downstream, fight him like a champ, not a flat footed wusshole. Also if your lucky enough to have room to let your fish run, then let him make his runs. Don't clamp your drag down tight and bust off 6 fish in a row (like I've seen done below the meathole all week long). If you have lots of snags then you have no choice sometimes but to button down.

BRING POLARIZED GLASSES These fish will hold up in inconspicous holes. Easily visible to those with 'xray' glasses. I do judge people all the time. I don't think much of guys who consider themselves fishermen who reel with their spinning reels upside down, and argue that they see as many fish as I do with their naked eyes. You'll know if your one of the elite if I call you Ricky Bobby, or Napoleon and ask you to take two steps back because your stepping on my fish.

FIND YOUR OWN FISH. This means move around. Sometimes a pool full of fish is so harrassed its impossible to get them to bite. Find smaller pockets and hit unmolested fish. The limit is one fish per day. Why do you need a pool with 400 fish that won't bite when a pocket that holds 6 fish and most biters will fill the cooler quicker? Get away from the crowds, unless you enjoy socializing. Yes, sometimes the guys in the meatline are freaking hilarious.

Pick blackberries in the afternoon if the bite is slow or the tide is wrong. Don't waste your energy in the hard part of the day. Enjoy yourself. Take a nap, grab some Olympic Ice Cream from Hunters Farm. Talk with your kids. Most of all have fun and good luck.

Dude, did Fly not explicitly ask you not to post Skok reports this year? I'd think someone that works in the ER wouldn't shoot himself in the foot.

Nobody reads this board Sol. And I work this weekend.
I think Fly said don't post any pics. I actually have a geat pic to post. Its of the meathole last Sat and you can count 122 guys.

It won't matter anyways, he'll be in and out in 20 minutes, unless he's drinking, and then it'll be 15.

That's some quality fishing right there. When I was there two weeks ago it looked like the Walla Walla inmates were out on a field trip.

I'm not sure if there were more people or fish this morning, results were the same as last night. Parker and uec eggs put on a clinic, and yep they were "In the mouth" Its funny how people are amazed when they bite. He set another guy up with some eggs, first cast he had one on.

there were a ton of nice fish in the tidewater off 106 yesterday morning, but they mostly fell to the guys tossing 8 foot leaders with nothing but purple yarn, using the "sit and jerk" method of fishing. they were probably so spooked that they wouldn't even hit eggs.

LMAO- Always wanted to see a warrant check station there. You'd have a lot of room to fish in short order

Those twins are as big in real life as they are in that pic on Sols homepage.

AuntyM its best if you don't ask.

Musicman, My job is a twisted comix. I'd write more about it but it'd violate privacy laws. I was recently accused of being unprofessional. The accusation coming from a drunk with a badly broken jaw. I told him to fill out a customer comment card with his crayon, and that I don't really care what someone with a parole officer thought about me. Then he asked me for a sandwich. Arrrggg.

Sol,

This report was as much as a warning as anything. Last weekend it was hard finding a spot to park past the fishgate at Hunters Farm. Let me repeat that, I BOUGHT A $50 KEY AND STILL HAD TROUBLE FINDING A PLACE TO PARK LAST SATURDAY. This weekend will be worse.

I did have a temporary report restriction the first week of the month. As it is I'm down to reporting on the Columbia, the Cowlitz, and the Skok. I"m pretty sure someone soon will ask that if I don't post about it they'll show me their secret spot at the mouth of the Big C at Buoy 10.

Mental Note to Parker: Next time your dumb-arse ties up a nice batch of 2/0 and 3/0 hooks on both 15 and 20LB UG.

DO NOT LEAVE THE DARN ROLL OF LEADERS IN YOUR RIG!!!!!

wink

Those 10lb steelhead leaders just didn't do the trick today. Ugh.

Oh yeah and fish that bite eggs and hooked in the mouth aren't nearly as fun to watch as the tribal snagged fish (what a riot to watch) and what all the flossers were doing.

99.99999% of every fish I saw hooked today was floosed by the corky/yarn fisherman.

The only 3 people I saw using eggs today were Doug, Joe and myself. Funny how we didn't have a problem getting the fish to bite.

(I had to stop fishing when a little fiesty buck INHALED the eggs all the way down it's throat. can you say gill raked? I could have been an arse-hole and just cut the line, but I bonked it and stopped fishing.)

<WUMP> <WUMP>

JOE: There he is.....

<WUMP> <WUMP>

Parker: Dude, you gonna set that hook, or what?

Dude Next To Joe: Is that a fish BITING those eggs???

JOE: <WOOOOOSH!> Fish on!

Dude Next To Joe: Wholly Crap! That fish bit! It's IN THE MOUTH!!!!!

I laughed hard today. Was entertaining.

laugh

Funny how the UEC's were the bomb, but shortly afterwards, Uncle Joe's eggs were the hot potatoes. Some good eggs there, boys. wink
