It's Skynard.

A spectacular acoustic version of Simple Man was recently done by a band called "Shinedown". I bought the disc just for that one song - the rest is kinda fast & heavy for my mature ears. But, man, that young fella (whoever he is) really belts it out with a great voice -- gives me goosebumps.

Slab -

The correct name of the GRATEFUL DEAD song is "New Speedway Boogie".

In the chorus they sing:
"one way or another
one way or another
one way or another
this darkness got to give"

Right on recognizing a song by AMERICAS' GREATEST ROCK AND ROLL BAND!!!!
(now that's sure to stir controversy!)

I have never thought of the Dead as a rock n roll band per se. They are more of a psychedelic country-rock band, like New Riders of the Purple Sage (NRPS)

"Bet you're woman's up in bed with 'ol....PANAMA RED.

Still chewing on TK's last submission....no light bulbs yet

Maybe another clue?

TK & Slabby,

Thank-you both for showing respect for The Dead. A lot of their songs are truly extraordinary, even if you can't get behind the culture.

TK - I'm stumped....70's....hmmm....
Flip Wilson?
Andy Williams?
Michael Jackson?
Englebert Humperdinck?

I pull out the plank
and say thank you for yanking me back
To the fact
That there's always something to distract
But sometimes it's hard
To know if I'm doing it right
Can I have it all?
Can I have it all now?

Little bit tougher one here, perhaps.

:p

I think that pic of Kate is a few years old... isn't it KK? ;\) \:D

Just a lucky guess on my part. I'm a little familiar with some of her music, but not that much.

OK, here's mine:

"Chewin' on a piece of grass... walkin' down the road. Tell me how long ya gonna stay here Joe?"

Sure, it' a few years old, but that's what she looked like when I was buying her stuff, and when something new comes out, I'll buy that too!

You wait a long time for an album from her. Last one was a bit weak by me, but the one before that was very good. I'm partial to the early stuff, up through Sensual World (89 or 90), but I'll listen to her sing anything. ;\)

She is one talented lady, had a ton of songs written at 16, when Roger Waters from Floyd started recording/ and funding her music career

I can walk down the street, there's no one there
Though the pavements are one huge crowd.
I can drive down the road; my eyes don't see,
Though my mind wants to cry out loud.
