Have caught coho and black rocks on all sorts of topwater lures. If you intend to target salmon with them, they'll need a hook swap. Oh yeah, gulls like 'em too.

You miss a lot of strikes but finely honed ss mustad siwash. Both pointed downward. The most fun that I have with them is no hooks. That's right, none. Kind of a game we play. How many times can you get a fish to blow it out of the water in one cast. \:\)

never tried for salmon, but have 3 dozen of them that I have with me to see how these tropical fish like 'em \:\)

Some have a slatwater hook on them that are quite a bit beefier than the other stock hooks.

Probably the most fun I've ever had (fishing), was using deer hair bass bug floaters on a fly rod for cohos. Always in slack water river pools- not in the salt.

The surface hit from an 18 +++ pound coho on an 9 wt. is fun !

Using jerk Bass bait lures is also great fun for Silvers and Black Rockfish feeding shallow (less than 50 ft.) in the saltwater.

The "science" of bass fishing IMHO is probably the best training for learning how to find and fish structure, work a lure and tides. etc. and then carry it over to Saltwater fishing.

Especially for Halibut.
