I have preached this for almost 5 years. I have sat hear telling about what I saw in La Push which is the same thing that we just found out about the Makah.

I watched for almost 4 years while the numbers we got were just a small percent of the truth for the tribal harvest on the Quileute system.

Not for a minute can you believe they would be out there fishing in the cold of winter for an anticipated catch of 500 blackmouth for the whole tribal fleet. Hellow do you think they are out there spending money on gas and crew for a few pounds a day?

I dont think so.

I was not suprised even one bit as thats what I always expected.

We have got some serious problems with many of the tribes in out state and their practices. We need our own people counting what they bring in and their practices on the fishing grounds. We have interest in this as well.

I dont know how that info got out but it never would have come from the WDFW. If it would have got to them before the media they would have burried it.

Rich,

Kudos to you for continuing to speak up about what was going on at Lapush. Unfortunately it takes coverage by a major media source for most people to believe what they are being told.

It is frustrating that most people need to wait for a major news source to cover the issue before it becomes fact, and not just biased rumors, or "racist" comments.

Thanks again

Clicking on the link to the Makah web site in papaslap's post, then clicking on "Fishing" on their menu, it says "Under Construction."

Don't they really mean "UNDER DESTRUCTION."

It would be more comical if this wasn't such a serious issue.

Go to the makah link and click on the contact us. Then you put your two cents in. I told them about the (4) pack halibut trip I canceled this morning!!

Rich, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I stopped fishing at Neah Bay over 15 years ago because I wasn't going to support anything to do with the Makahs. As I stated previously, this isn't the first time they've done this. They do it and just thumb their nose at the rest of us. In this state when the tribes say jump, all the politicians and WDFW say "How high". The tribes are essentially treated as if they're above the law.
The tribes shouldn't be allowed to fish w/o an offical non-tribal observer right there to count every damn fish they catch or it will never change. That or just take their right to fish away. They sure the hell don't deserve it anymore.
