Anyone know where I can get a real nice harpoon? I like a high quality two piece handle.
I only found three types: one from blueoceantackle.com, the second on ebay, and a wooden handle from SportCo.

You mind sharing a design of your home-made if you got one.

Iron Head,

I picked up a nice one at Seattle Marine and Fishing Supply a few years ago - http://www.seamar.com. Telescoping handle, rubber grip and detaching steel point. Now, if I only had more chances to use it...

waino,
Thanks for that link.
They don't have any pictures for these harpoons.
Which one do you have?
What material is the handle made of?

Thanks

Not sure about the brand name, but can check - Swain's Outdoors - Sequim has a fiberglass extendable harpoon. It goes from about 4' to over 6'. I think it is built on one of the extension painting poles.

Seattle Marine and Fishery Supply or Outdoor Emporium.

Outdoor Emporium in Seattle has both the extendable and solid wood. The extendables are really nice. They are in stock too. They have a short extendable, That extends from 3 or 4' to about 6' for storage or the 5' or 6' (can't remember) that extends longer for those tall boats.

The handle is either fiberglass or a plastic composite. Whatever it is, it's plenty strong. Nice and compact for storage, but extends enough to work just right.

Other stores may have the same kind. The handle is beige with a green rubber grip at the end.

I have the wood one and am thinking of upgrading to the fiberglass one. When I put the harpoon handle in the rod rack in the boat it slams around back and forth hitting the rods while moving. It works fine, but is sloppy in the rod rack. I put foam insulation around the handle where it fits in the rack for now. If I had to do it over I would buy the fiberglass. Then again if you only go out once or twice a year it may not be worth it to some. Its a personal preference.

I'm sure you will upgrade to the powered model next year Fishinut. Can't have too many toys. Just make sure Jean doesn't find out about it.

I have the yellow fiberglass extendable model w SS rod and tip. The dia is actually greater than some rod holders, so mine goes into a rod tray. The extension feature is nice - but be aware this thing is heavy. Great for planting in the big flatties:)
