went down to the nooch todaybelow black creek and had a nice steely on for about 30 seconds but lost it . it was a crazy ******* jumping and flipping everywhere. that was about 15 min into fishing then it was dead the rest of the day saw no other fish caught saw about 10 fishermen. I started at black creek and ended up at the 7400 line and it was dead. im thinkin that these summer fish are now just showing up. or the weather had a part in it.

I can't imagine it being dead. Shoot it's flowing at a whopping 415 cfm. The fish should just be flying up the river. With that much flow I am sure there are some sleds down low. At what cfm do the sleds quit running around all crazy like? I don't imagine you will find too many summer fish up around 7400 right now.

Here's a good tip. 1141S 8lb main, 6lb leader, tiny black cheater, minimal weight, and a 1/3 of a 41/50 prawn. It's candy for them summer runs. Be prepared to run up and down the gravel bar with the reel sizzlin cause these skamania fish love to tail walk.

Fished it opening day from White Bridge to Black Creek.

No steel for me, or the other clown in the boat.

How many years has it been since that happened? I know it's been a few. I just purchased a house a few miles from the cross over bridge, and have been fishing it on and off since it opened. I finally went and started fishing "other Wynoochee water" if you know what I mean. Put 5 fish on the bank since the 1st. Getting them out of that snag infested creek is a pain though.

Superfly wants to come down and fish one of these nights after work, you should join us. Better bring a brush rod and some braid though. Are you still living in Oly? If so I am sure Joe would be more than happy to pick you up on his way down. You should have been at his wedding down on the wind. It was a great time. Amato took Fishhead5 for 40 bucks on some poker.

It's been a long time, HH.

I'm sure the fact that we were lazy about getting there before the armada and had 8-10 boats go over the water before we got there didn't help. We probably should have put in later and finished up closer to dark.

Let me know if you guys put something together...........I could probably scoot out of work a little early some afternoon and do a fish-till-dark thing. Brush stick and braid, huh? Sounds interesting.

You gotta watch that Amato character.......he's bankrolled a few nights of eating and drinking for three of us on gambling winnings. \:D

I fished it last week, cross-over to Black Creek. It was a good 700+ cfs, but only saw two boat trailers that day. I kinda' took that as a bad omen - enough water to float a drift boat, but few boats, does that mean, few fish?

I only saw two steelhead, but didn't try to spot the really deep holes from the high banks, if you know where I mean. So there were a few fish around, but it ain't exactly loaded with 'em. And the ones that are there aren't lying in the best fly water either, hence weighted fly dangling from 10' leader and floating line. And nada.

And now the river's down to 400 cfs. How's a poor steelhead supposed to get up there? Crawl?

Sincerely,

Salmo g.

WOW! When it rains, it pours! Holy Noah!

Was anyone else out there for that hellacious downpour this afternoon? The river rose a foot and a half in just a few minutes.... gage went up to about 1500 CFS for about an hour, just long enough to zip up out of the Chehalis into a deep tidewater hole with the neighbor's new sled and bounce up a couple keepers.

Barely had time to get out of there before the river was dropping again. The boat was so overloaded we scraped on a few shallow riffles before we could make our way safely back to the Chehalis.... WHEW!

Stand by for pics....
