Blackberries that is. I would love to find a place to pick enough for a pie or two. I drove more than 30 miles today and found almost none. Do you have a honey hole for the little wild balckberries you are willing to share?

Still a little early isnt it? Think we need alot more warmer days to produce them?

Sol: They are ripe NOW. I mean the little guys, not those big ole Himalaya and Evergreen ones that get ripe in Aug/Sept.

I want the little ones that take about a zillion to make a pie. IMHO they make the very best pie from Northwest berries. In spring I look forward to the first rhubarb, then little wild blackberries, followed by lots of kinds of apple pie. Gee, I wonder why my waders feel like they have shrunk – again.

There are some around.

Look for clear cuts atleast 3 years old and you will find em.

Got ripe ones in my back yard right now but not enough for a pie. I pick at my mom and dads near Discovery Bay when I want a bunch. Around the 4th of July is when I start lookin. They are a little later this year but in the sun they are ready.

Dave,

We have some coming ripe in the yard...but wife says they are *reserved* for a berry cobbler....

That's what I get for marrying a superb baker!

Burley Mountain just outside of Randle. My Mom's side of the family owned farms there and we used to run the clearcuts up there for them. Usually find a little bear competition too though!

The only thing better than wild mountain blackberries is wild mountain huckleberries. They generally are ready around Labor Day. Look in clearcuts at an elevation greater than 2500'.

Couple of places Dave......highway side of Reiter just over the tracks has plenty of berries. Also, the stretch of Highway 9 between 108th and 172nd Streets, they are easy to spot, just park along the Highway and start picking......way better than the hatchery blackberries.

Why go through all that traveling Dave? Just set up a marionberry patch in your back yard.

Dave,
I camped at Ft. Flagler on Marrowstone last weekend and saw a lot of them along the trails that the Park maintains on the bluff overlooking PT Bay/Admirlty Inlet. I didn't pick any, but they were easy to get to.

Are there any logging roads left in Duvall? If so, I bet you'll find some little wild ones not far from your house.

I'm lucky enough, the last 3 years, to have a small but productive patch below the house. I've accumulated about 1.5 gallons this year and will be making wild blackberry jam this Sunday! While WBB Pie is my favorite, Jam lasts soooo much onger, and is a treat come January:)

Move quick, I'd say you've only got a week or 2 left of productive picking unless they are in a really shaded area.

Dave,

After you drive out of Carnation towards Fall City you will see a sign that says Davidson Sawmill. Turn left up that road. go all the way to the gate of what used to be Weyerhauser land. Walk through the gate and you should start seeing them as you walk the little unused spur roads through the flats. BTW mine where early this year and have come and gone. Poor year as well.

If his patch comes through for me I swear I will not argue with him for at least two weeks!

That's impossible, Dave. ;\)

Hey Sol, did you commute from Poulsbo to the UW on a motorcycle while you were in school?
