Pretty windy this afternoon and lot's of boats heading back on the freeway late afternoon (read that as puting in a full day to find fish) When fishing's good, many boats are trailered and on their way by noon.

I've heard of a few more silvers showing in the catch but no size yet.........typical for this time of year.

I'd be curious to know of today's success too and also if anyone knows where we stand on the Westport quota.

Just got back from Westport and I myself fish late because I enjoy the fishing, can't see going out for two hours and going home. For the three of us, we caught and kept an 18, 15 and 14 pound Kings, caught several more around 8-10 lbs and released. We also caught about 10 or 12 coho, everyone of them had a fin, even the 3 lb runt. One of the silvers was chomped by a six foot blue, and then it got hooked, the fight to save the flasher was on. All in all, for Westport , I would call it slow, but for many places fishing was excellent. I can't complain, Oh and the bar was very sloppy on the way out. Had a friend go north and was lousy, called him in from 16 miles, and he caught fish too , whem he finnally showed up.

Glowing report! I would have expected nothing less from the master of Westport. Way to go Steve!

I'm with you, bud. Early limits and back on the road by noon just doesn't do it for me. Why not just drive over to Safeway?

There are but a handful of legitimate excuses to quit fishing once you're already invested in getting out there:

1) Out of gas
2) Out of bait
3) Out of daylight
4) Out of energy.... exhaustion
3) Out of your mind to persist in dangerous weather/seas.

Did I forget anything?

A few of us here at the office hit Westport yesterday with a boat load of Bucket's henchmen. The company and the accomadations were great (thanks Jimmy), but the fishing was fairly slow. Bottom line: It sucks going on a strange charter with a captain and deckhand you don't know. Why?

Fundamental canon #1: Goober gets the fish. The guy who lowers his bait straight down and winds his bait around his mainline; the guy who keeps reeling long after the sinker is buryed in the rodtip while the fish is netted and flopping on the deck, and the guy who puts his rod in the holder with the sinker and bare hooks flopping about wildly will always catch the biggest and the most fish at Westport. Don't ask me why.

Fundamental canon #2: Don't bring any experience with you, the captain will assume that since you don't fit the Gooberatorial mold, you will lose all your fish. Don't set the hook, or "YOU'LL PULL THE HOOKS OUT." Just start reeling like a jackass. Don't pump your rod while playing a fish, or "YOU'LL LOSE-EM." Just reel against a slipping drag like a jackass. eventually you'll make headway and land the fish. In fact you can keep reeling when the fish is in the boat if you like. Any outward sign of personal initative on your behalf will be met with verbal conflict on behalf of captain and crew.

We landed 10 or 11 fish for 21 people on the boat. 4 of those were coho and the biggest king was almost 18 pounds. We spent alot of time running around looking for fish, which hurt us I thought. When the captain finally put us on the area the rest of the fleet was working we did fine.

And to think we discussed ducktaping the skipper and have you run the boat!! Why didn't we follow thru?
Didn't have trouble with bait boy when he told me not to jig and I asked why is the bait no good or soft, it was when he started hijacking Nofish and my beer every time we turned around

LMFAO!!! Sol that is so TRUE!!! When I was in high school my dad and I used to fish on pukers out of Ilwaco all the time..his pals, buds from my high school baseball and football teams, anyone with $30 who could get up early enough.....one arsewipe Captain Bligh in particular stands out ....while he'd be lecturing all the drunks ready to puke up their 34 jack & cokes with a $2.99 gnarly breakfast fried in Quaker State, we'd all go into the cabin, sip coffee and dad would make fun of the dude..."blah blah blah, f him son, we're gonna fish our way"....we'd be berated on cue for daring to set the hook, for daring to pump 'n reel and for daring to go out more than the allowed 15 pulls. We always caught tons of fish and had a blast playing "mock Captain Bligh behind his back"......those were fun days... \:D

It would be fun to see how a boat load of pros, guides and all, would handle being told how to fish. ;\)

Luckily, the Fury is a fisherman friendly boat. \:\)
