Headed for a ten day trip to a small island in front of Larsen Bay on Wednesday. http://www.greatbearadventures.com/fishing.asp
It is no luxury resort. just a little nicer than camping with a decent boat to fish from. I probably have the Halibutt and salmon covered as far as the salt goes but am wondering what I will be wishing I had once I am up there. Have a big bug rod packed in case I make it to a river on the big Island but know I will be kicking myself for what I didn't bring.
I am brain dead from wrapping things up at work for this trip so any help would be great!!!

Has anyone been to this area in mid August???

Last minute packing sucks

I think you are covered. I have fished there in mid August. You should have a ball. I did really well with small Zzinger jigs.

For a change of pace have them take you to where you can catch the local mackerl. I think they are called Atka mackrel. They are pretty and fight okay. Just someting that you wont find too many other places.

I would try and put a stripper in my duffle bag. That way, if the fishing is less than steller, you will have something to look at when your bored. A good one will weigh about the same as a small cooler ( loaded ) and if you shop around you might find one that can tie blood and or nail knots, and maybe even cook !!! \:D

I am pressed for time. If you could PM me with a short list of prequalified duffle babes it would be a great help. Maybe I should go strait to SOTD for this.

I have spent years and years at Larsen Bay. My kids are up there now working in the cannery. Any chance you could swing by and take my 17 year old son out fishing for an hour or two?

Well, I don't know how to PM and since you are leaving tomorrow I don't have time to figure it out... so I will give you his name...
Mark Tarabochia. They will know who he is... my family has been fishing out of that cannery for years.
Karluk would be a good trip.. if you have a rifle. Go to the head of Larsen Bay and there is an easy trail for about 45 minutes. I got chase by a bear there in '78. What an adrenaline rush. My friend carrying the fish should have dropped them. We had two rifles and damn glad we did. Bring a bug net for your head.
