Looking to switch to a braid on my Shimano 2000 Stradic this year for float fishing, gonna mate it up to a Lami 9.5' cert. pro light action. What brands do you all like and in what weight.... ....c/22

Agreed! I use the 6/20 moss-green on all my spinning reels and keep a spare spool filled with yellow. (I have never had any problems with it as long as I keep my kid from reeling when a fish is running line)

make sure you carry scissors because nail clippers just don't work well

PP also works great as backing on fly reels! \:D

I have it on my 4 wt for backing and it works great, though I have not had the pleasure of seeing it "due to a fish" since last summer!

my favorite set up for a low-water drifting set up is using a triple surgeons knot to tie a leader on, leaving a tag end (on the mono) for a bb shot. I have never had a break at the surgeons knot.

it is probably one of the most popular lines in the South now, we use it on everything from Tarpon to Trout (or Specks as they call em)

I prefer PP but have also used TuffLine with good results.

Chrome/22,
Used Power Pro when it first came out. It had some quality control problems with little bumps along the length of the line. Probably today they have remedied that problem. I then changed to yellow (Hi-Vis) Izorline till I fished the Snake with a friend of mine who is a well know guide who used yellow Tuff Line (30 lb.) Since that time I use Tuff Line on my float rod with one small compliant. The yellow color dims or wears off on ALL the Braided Lines. The "colored" lines donot bother the fish one little bit and helps you see to mend it. They also float better than mono. The Tuff Line is less expensive than PP. I believe just about all the Braided lines would work fine. You WILL have to learn new knot tying with the "Braids!"

I have fished with braids in the past, I tried spider-line on my Stradic years ago when it was new to the market, think it was sort of a brown colored line, it worked ok I remember it was really nice to mend as it floated. Also tried the Fireline but that was on a baitcaster. As to knots most use the Polomor...right? I just thought in all the years I've been fishing mono some advancements in braided line must have passed me by....... \:D

I remember the bumpy Power pro, they have fixed that and it is really a nice line nowadays... nt cheap though

Forgot to mention that when you buy it buy it through a well known dealer, watch out on the e-bays and other online spots; there have been a rash of bogus Power Pro hitting the market from the Phillipines and have heard it is junk.

I got PP on my salmon jigging and mooching rods and it works great. I have fireline on my trout spinning reels and no complaints there either.

The is another braided line on the market. The brand is Calcutta. I believe it is a spectra base rather than kevlar. It seems to be rounder and smoother than PP. We've been loading it on reels since last spring and haven't heard of any problems. It might be a little larger in diameter than PP but it lays nicely on the reels.

With any of the braided lines, make sure you lay down a base of dacron or mono. If you don't, the pressure of fighting a fish can tighten the braid and it will start to spin on the spool. That is not good. In addtion to stopping the slippage, it cuts down on the amount of braid you need to fill the spool.

You can find Calcutta at Swains Outdoors in Sequim.

Good point to remember (I actually use a piece of duct tape on my bare spool) I learned that one the same way I have learned many other fishing tips... the hard way!

Anothervote for Power Pro. Just make sure you carry a spare spool of mono in freezing weather, cause braid and freezing weather do not mix.

Chrome 22:

There are actually 3 braids that I've used:

1. Power Pro ------- 20/8
2. Stren ----------- 20/8
3. Ande(Brand new)-- 20/6 ... Sent them a email, they mailed me 2 spools....125 yds. 1 30# and 1 20#. What the heck might be worth an email......I have the 30# on a Curado and using it to fish silvers...so far it works great.

All 3 of the braids are "HI VIS" and hasn't slowed my fish hooking. Main thing, makes it easy to see!!!!

Follow the other comments.....all are true!!! Braid does freeze and its a "no go" then.
