I have a great client that has inquired about the fall run of steelhead on the Situk up in Yakutat. He and I have both fished that drainage in the spring of the year, just not the fall.
He has heard a rumor of some good steelhead fishing, less the crowds of spring. He is probably the most versatile steelheader I know of, having grown up in the PNW and living in Alaska for the last 10 years. It seems he is continually on the quest for a new spot.
I am from Sitka, and none of my friends up there have any idea what is going on up on that river.
I understand the gamble of fall rains/bears/dirty water.
I also understand that this could classify in the "sleeper" category - so feel free to email me at rooster@4riversmontana.com
With the wealth of knowledge and bs slung around here amybe one of you has heard if its good/bad/indifferent or worth a look.
Thanks,
Rooster

I know the Kodiak Isl fish are fall fish starting in Mid Sept going into November. No reason why the Situk wouldnt have the same.

They would have to winter over in the rivers though like they do on Kodiak.

I've heard that there are a few that go up in the fall and winter over, but nothing near the numbers that it get in the spring. Im planning on taking a week this next spring and camping/fishing it.

Rooster...please let us know what you learn. We do YAK every year for silvers, but 2006 will be first year we try steelhead in early May.

Anyone have any good guides to suggest? We are staying at Glacier Bear, not sure if we need to fetch our own guide or if a package deal.

Is the steelheading everything they say it is?
