Does anyone know who sells a quality, professional looking antler mounting kit? Most of the ones I've seen, like those that Cabela's sells, are pretty cheesey looking. The only decent ones I have found to date are at Vandykes taxidermy website.

Thanks for your help.

i have always hated those kit things that places like Cabelas sell. when i was young started wrapping our antlers with the tanned hides and mounting them on "good" pieces of wood. easy way to go..

Tklundt. I have been working on ways to preseve hunting memories for considerably less cost than fullmounts for some time. All I need is the rack and maybe a picture and can make you something even the most picky of wifes would hang on their living room walls. I have never explored a market for such an enterprise because I live in a small community and pretty busy at times. But let me know if your interested and we could talk about it.

Thankx for the interest HntnFsh. I like to make things that are unique and personal to the experience of the hunter. This involves custom woodworking, woodburning, painted skull mounts, bird hides and tail mounting, unique picture framing. I can use any thing that you can preserve from the hunt. Antlers, bloody arrow, shell casings, tail of cow or doe, cow ivories, pictures etc.............. LOTS OF IDEAS. We would have to talk about what would suit your needs and what you remember most about the particular hunt.

Sounds good but I understand you might want to see something. I dont have a lot of proto types to show you of antler mounts because I dont have many racks to use. I usualy end up shooting a doe in early archery season for some meat in the freezer. I will have to go to an anler show or talk to taxidermist for some racks he might have laying around.

I do have some things made of pheasant and duck hides with pictures of my dogs. I will try to post them in the next couple of weeks. So be patient and keep interested.

Try WASCO. Website below, and they can send you a free catalog. Taxidermists order thier supplies from them, and they also have some easy kits for non-pros. I ordered some mounting hardware and used some tanned deer hide from Quilceda Tanning instead of the cheezy velvet - it worked very well.
