Hi all,

I have a 10 ft Zodiak that I'm cleaning up and getting ready to sell for my father in law. It was bought in 1996 and the title says it was originally purchased in 1985. It has a wooden floor that comes in 5 pieces & a wooden Transom. It came with a 1985 Johnson 6 HP outboard short shaft. The outboard runs good I have used it on my drift boat for the last couple of years. It also came with a 17lb thrust electric Minn Kota that still works. I presume the electric trolling motor was used for small lakes and the gas engine was used for bigger water. I'm pretty sure the whole set up is from 1985. I was just curoius what you guys think its worth. I figure there must be some salty dog out there that can use this boat. Its in great shape for its age. Seams, floor, & transom are all in great shape. It has some small leaks right now some I'm going to track them down & patch them up. It still has the original patch kit & air pressure guage. The only thing that seems to be missing are the oars if it had any... The boat has a title but the registration is out of date (03).

I was at West Marine this weekend & saw the same boat in there for $2200. The floor was identilcal to this model. The only real difference was the color. This boat is Orange & Black. Todays models are different shades of grey.

So what do you guys think?

I would guess somewhere around 300 to 400 dollars for the boat. The easiest way to track down the leaks it to put it on saw horses and fill with a couple inches of water. then lie under it and mark them with a pen. I would go to inflatable boatworks in ballard and get a the stuff you need to patch it. They will ask the year then set you in the right direction. ie chemicals to clean, something to scuff the site, the correct material and glue. They are constanly changing materials to something stronger or better.

Try online marine classifieds. Also, the free magazines at West Marine may have some ads for a similar outfit for sale. If you're around a marina, check the for sale boards. There's usually a card for an inflatable of some type for sale tacked to the boards.
I would check with Ballard Inflatables also.

That's a pretty fair estimate, and that's assuming you get the leaks figured out, so you can advertise as 'no leaks'. I also assume you're talking about air leaks, not water leaks. Air leaks can be tough to find. One way is to fill the tubes with air, and then sponge soapy water on the tubes...watch for bubbles. If that doesn't work, try putting a little glycerin in the water (makes better bubbles). Anywhere you see a bubble, mark with a crayon, or some other marker that you can later wipe off.

I recently sold a 10' Avon rigid hull for $400, and it sold in a day, so that was a little under-priced...........

...you could try asking $600 once it's clean and no leaks, have it fully inflated when folks look at it, and take a lower offer if you're motivated. Also, maybe advertise it a couple weeks before lowland lakes trout opening.

good luck.

I will give the bubble thing a try. I have been waiting for it to warm up a bit before I try repairs. I like your idea of advertising rite before trout season...

Thanks
Dan
