i look forward to yours... unfortunately i am more intent on hunting than taking pictures so most of the ones posted were taken by others.

Wow, looks like you had a great year! So what do you do with all that meat afterwards? I used to be a hard core duck and goose hunter about ten years ago, but found that I just don't like eating them that much. I usually have plenty of chances to pick off ducks when I'm pheasant hunting, but now I just let them pass anymore. I do miss it, but maybe if I had some better ways to prepare them I just may dust off the decoys.

I love roast duck, duck poppers, duck sticks, grilled goose breast...
There are a lot of ways to cook it that are very good(IMO)

D3 what is a duck popper? Sounds good. Do you make your own sticks?

I usauly make a bunch of jerky out of mine. Past few seasons I have been making burger and suausage. Pretty easy, just get a limit of puddlers, get breast, leg, heart & gizzrad meat off them. Match the duck meat weight with some really fatty pork shoulder and grind it up. Pork meat works a lot better than beef. Sausage about the same but add some packages of bacon and the proper suasage seasonings (sage, thyme, rosemary, salt).

makes about 10 - 15 pounds of burger or suasage.

I do not make my own sticks. I usually get them done over in Naches.
A "duck popper" to me, is a breast, filleted in half. leaving 2 flat skinny pieces. Then i pound the meat with a mallet to make it even. place a spear of jalepeno pepper in it, role up the breast, wrap it with bacon and grill it until the bacon is done.

D3,
Great pix! They remind me of similar days with my Chesapeake. I had to put him down in 1999 when he finally wore out after 14 years.... I need to get another retriever and get back out there again. Until then, I've been doing a fair amount of 'yote hunting to keep it interesting during the fall/winter. Perhaps we could do a bird/'yote combination trip this fall.
Thanks for sharing!
Michael
