I'll be sending them a note ... on behalf of myself as well as in my OPGA postion: I'll be making a reocmmendation to our membership to inform all their clientele and recommend boycotting all Schwartz Bros. establishments.

Time to burn down the place, sorry i dont feel like being nice. On the other side of the coin, its probably less expensive there than for us to catch from the rivers eh.

This is a similiar to the situation we faced back in '05. Keep in mind that Scwartz Brothers is NOT affiliated with Restaurants Unlimited (RUI) who we dealt with 2 years ago. With that said, they will not be expecting an opposition so we must go at them with the same intensity we went after RUI.

What are they thinking? The small profit compared to the negative impact is so drastic! Maybe they need to see some of the trunks those fish are in before they get them. Hopefully they'd be disgusted, but, probably not.

That's it!! We will never be eating at their restaurant's AGAIN!!

Unless they promise never to buy/or serve wild steelhead again and make a formal apology!!

P.S This boycott will include my folks and everyone else I know that frequents their establishments!!!

Back in the late 90s we used to build alot of the Swartz Bros restaurants. Not sure what they own any more. They owned all of the Cucina Cucinas, Daniels Broilers, Chandlers Crab house. I can't remember the rest. They might not own them anymore, not sure. Just an FYI

It has come to my attention that you are serving Hoh River steelhead in your restaurant chain. The wild steelhead runs in WA, other states, and BC have been declining for years. Habitat issues are one cause, but the support of indiscriminate netting by tribal fishers, without regard of the long-term impacts to the resource, through the purchases of wild steelhead by restaurant chains such as yours only serve to aggravate the situation. I won’t be dining in your restaurants for the foreseeable future and will ask my family and friends to also find somewhere else to dine out.

Boycott on until this stops...

I hope you guys are marching in front of the Quinault Casino and boycotting all tribal casinoes as well as restaurants...also do you know where the wild steelhead are being distributed from? I doubt it is directly from the back of tribal pick ups...a fish buyer I presume>? Pike Place market....??? There are always lots of steelhead for sale there....Boycott the market too. How about staking out the restaurants and following anyone home who orders steelhead? Picket them at home.

I personally have never eaten there, but my wife takes her employees there several times a year as does her fishing peers....I will advize her and for her inform her peers to do the same....as they are mostly fishers and hunters...done deal! They can spend corporate $$$ elsewhere!!!! Thanks the heads up!

Grizz1 - You raise valid points, but the catchers are tribal and they are the ones doing the initial sale. There isn't much the state can do about their fisheries or the casinos (probably too much money going into political coffers for the politicians to give up proceeds). If folks would stop buying steelhead, the market would decline or hopefully disappear.

Then boycott the casino's too....I DO !

PR is a wonderful thing.....bringing things into the light of the public eye is a good thing...if they view a thing as abused, an underdog or taken advantage of....they form opinions.....that's what we need, people want to make a stand...even people who don't fish...

Perhaps the restaurant chain does not know about the wild steelhead issue we all are so aware of. I'm sure they purchased the fish legally. Maybe a call to find out if they are aware of things would be prudent before jumping to threats?
