Hey it's evident in the south that crayfish or crawfish or whatever are a lot more abundant than here in the northwest. Does anybody know any lakes that have a sufficient ammount of Crayfish? To the point where its actually worth using a lure to imitate them? Does Potholes have any Crayfish?

There are bizzilions in the Snake River and tributaries out here in eastern washington. Some big ones too. So many they are worth trapping and cooking. Smallmouth and channel cats love to eat'm. A crawdad patterned bait will work well at potholes but I have never seen any dads there but I have never looked for them either.

I was doing some bottom fishng with my bait about a foot off the bottom and tose little bastards try to clib up your line to get the chicken liver. They hold on until you get to the boat and then they dart off.

T Dot...

You got any particular worms you fish more then others?
Send me a PM more then others if you wanna keep it a secret or you don't have to tell me, but I just get overwhelmed when I see a hundred varieties of soft plastics at the store and I got no idea what to put on my line...

I do have about a dozen bags or so of worms...

Thanks for the help on Crayfish. I guess I will look into some brown/red jigs with Twin tail grubs as trailers. I have some crayfish scent as well so that will work good.

The plastics I use are Gary Yamamato's Senko's. Or just Senkos. Their performance has been unmatched by other types of plastics for me atleast. As some of you may have seen earlier my lake for some reason only likes to bite on plastics.

There are plenty of patterns for plastics, they work like most other baits. When fish are sluggish use smaller plastics ( too hot or too cold). When perfect weather or in fall choose a longer plastic, in the NW maybe 6" is as far as I would go. Darker plastics work better in cloudier conditions and semi-clear water. Bright plastics in muddy water. Fish them fast when fish are biting. Fish slow when fish are spooked or stubborn. I personally fish weightless plastics because it's very effective. Bass have eyes on the top of their head, they are meant to hang out deeper and then come to above them to feed. A lot of fisherman will fish below the Bass when it's not necessary. But yeah the plastic style can also be about imitating the forage fish at that time. Such as sunfish, crappie, or trout.

Anybody know the general habitat Crawfish like to hang out in? Do they ever hang out in sand or mud? Or are they strictly rock dwellers? Are there any color schemes for certain times of the year?

They like to have somewhere to hide, so they stick to rocks or bottoms with structure. I think.

Usually rocky bottoms...It provides the most cover for them..

Wood: Occasionally, but its rare to find them in mud or sand...

Go drop a pot for them and see what they look like...

Frabill makes crawfish traps for like $7 and you can buy 40 ft of line and a float for like $3 each...So its easy to get a trap setup for them and bait it with teh fish you catch...

I can't speak for the Eastside, but the ones over here are sort of a brown rusty color.

They are the same color over here not much bright orange. If you use a lure that has a little bright orange on it dosent seem to bother them a bit. Be sure to check the regs before you keep crawfish. There is a size restriction.
