I was rumaging through some pictures and I found theses and I thought I would share them. This was a 32 pound carp I shot when I was 17, in Michigan (1992). I won a contest with this fish; the prize was a dozen fletched alluminum arrows from a local archery shop. I won this contest two years in a row. The second year I won a bow fishing reel with a 27 pound carp. I havent done any carp shooting since then. Does anybody here shoot carp?

The term is giging flounder. I did it as a kid on the gulf coast of Texas. You do it at night with a lantern when its calm. You can see them on the bottom but sometimes you get sting rays by mistake.

I've shoot carp with bow/arrow a few times in my youth, but not since. An interesting combination of sports.

I was dinking around on a beach @ Banks last summer and saw some carp hanging near shore. Easily caught two of them and threw them on the beach. Do others do the same? I think of them as water rats.

Some people do eat them but not very many. We used them as fertilizer when I shot carp. Some of the big carp shooting tournaments send all the fish to a fertilizer plant.

Back in the 50s and 60s my aunt lived on Long Lake NW of Spokane. My cousin and I would shoot carp from their dock. These things were huge, upwards of 40lb. My aunt claimed in the early days there was a commercial fishery for them and they were sent to a market in Chicago. We also fished using a rod and reel with a small wad of bread for bait, sometimes worked. We also tried jumping in and grabbing them by hand with some success. My aunt used them for fertilizer.

We used to smoke them at the meat market I worked in as a teenager (Wisconsin). They tasted pretty good. Bony though.
