Has anyone here tried to re-paint there decoys. I've had mine for a while now and they are getting a little ragged. I have looked at paints but they seem to be less quality that the original colors. Paint and painting suggestions would be great. I would like to buy new dekes that are the real image variety but that is quite an investment right now.

it is WAY cheaper to go out and buy new than to re-paint. I have repainted before with Parker paint (i believe) and they turned out nice. BUT it is way easier to go buy hot buy GHGs for $20 a dozen and abuse them. Or suck it up and by G&H which will last a long time. I am trying to convert my entire spread to G&H... slowly... \:\)

D3,

What are you doing with your old blocks? Trash/recycle them? I wonder if the decoy companies would be interested in them? How much time did you invest in painting?

I have been eyeing those G&H's, they are pretty sweet. I also like the Cabelas real image with the adjustable heads and the Herters burlap beasts.

i just have a pile of old decoys that i dont do anything with.
It takes quite awhile to paint them well. I might have spent 20 min per decoy and done an ok job, with relatively little detail.
they are just ducks afterall

I get the paint from Cabelas and repaint the ones that need it after the season yes it is cheaper to buy new ones but this way I can go out to the shop in the evenings with a beer and get away from the family

I've repainted a number of times and look at it like sodfarmer does. I bought paint through Herters (mail order).
It's already mid May. Hunting season is right around the corner!
