so what flies will get me into a steelhead this summer??? ive had a couple hits and have caught nothing in my short fly fishing career.

i have a good arsenal of summer steelhead flies. but i know there has got to be more.

so what do you guys and gals use to get you into the fish?

really depends where you want to target them...
I mainly have fished eastside rivers for summer runs the past few years. I dont think that the fly matters too much especially if you have first water and fresh fish.

I like to use purple or black bunny leaches, Stone fly and Caddis nymphs. On the surface, I like orange or purple October caddis pattern, Small bombers, muddlers etc..

I have never fly fished for steelhead, but seeing as how many I have landed or seen landed on straight yarn I doubt if it really matters if you have fresh fish. The fish that I have seen hooked on flies have almost all come off of small dark nymphs.

I really wanna start fly fishing for steelhead, I think catching trout is really fun on a fly rod so I couldnt imagine a big steelhead. I have a buddy the fly fishes for steelhead and he said his favorites are the teeney nymph and the green butt skunk as said above.
