Something Todd said on the fishing board brings up a subject I have to talk about. Datsun B 210 's

We have a buddy who has all kinds of things but out of nowhere he announces that he wants a Datsun B 210 ( not just anyone, he wanted a hatch back in particular) Why the hell ??? " because you can put a rack on the roof and ride around out in the desert shooting stuff, and later, just open the hatch back and sleep inside !!!" Never mind that he has a sweet 4x4 truck.. he gets it in his head that he wants something and he has to have it.. so its a B 210 hatch back search.

Some guys were with him at a hockey game, and sitting up in the bar thats above the arena. There was a thrifty nickle ( adds for all kinds of crap) paper on the table. Out of nowhere " oh my GOD !! A B 210 !!! " He calls the number on his cell phone. No answer so he leaves a message " Hi, my name is Kurt, I was wondering about the B 210 you have in the paper, gimmi a call at ..."

More drinks.. 2 hours later he calls again..no answer and another message " Hi, this is Kurt again.. I kinda want to ask you about that G-damn B 210 but your not home.. call me"

More drinks... the last call .. another message " Hey, its Kurt again, why don't you answer your phucking phone so I can come and get that B 210 you [censored] G-damn it ... "

Next A.M, the other buddy is at work and Kurt calls him " Hey dude, I just got a really wierd message on my cell phone.. It said .. If you ever dial this number again.. we are calling the cops" " What the hell, who would do that ??" Uhhhhh... maybe it was the people you were swearing at on their answering machine last night at 12:30 A.M you knob...

" Oh.. dude... no kidding.. that sucks.. I mean, ya think they will still sell it to me ?? could you call them and maybe go look at it for me ??.. cause I really want one of those,, I hope its a hatch back " \:D

Back in High School my best friend bought a B210 hatchback for $200. We threw some good shocks on it, some snowtires, and used it to race all the other local losers up on the firetrails.

Those things are unstoppable.

One day while driving up Jackson Hwy, doing about 50-60 mph someone pulled out infront of him in a pickup, he T-boned the pickup at full speed.
The impact shoved the engine into the firewall at a 45 degree angle up aand to the right, the car itself spun around and slammed ass first into a tree.
It messed him up pretty good. Broken nose, ribs, bashed knees...
So the next morning at the wrecking yard, we go to clean all his crap out, I reach over and turn the key...

rrrr...rrrrrr....rrrrrrrVVVRRROOOM! putputputput!

It was amazing.

Oh, I'm sure B-RUN knows you can talk your way in to a half day somewhere, it's the shutting the hell up for the other half of the day that concerns him. ;\)

Sorry. Couldn't resist! Was way to juicy not to hit out of the park.

my buddy had the B210's slightly bigger, faster, better looking cousin, a '76 610 hatchback in high school. had the 2.0l 4 boinger, and fully independent suspension. was a lot of fun taking it on rally runs up in capitol forest and driving through tank traps on ft. lewis land before it'd get you arrested or shot following 9/11.

it did have it's share of problems...he wasn't much of a mechanic, and there was more than 1 time that the improperly preloaded(by him) wheel bearings let go and sent a wheel flying off the road. also had a lot of loose wires and a 2500RPM idle.

I bought an 81 Datsun 210 Hatch Back after my 74 Camaro's tranny died the second time after I graduated from college and got a job. The car had a hard time starting and I took it to a mechanic who couldn't fix it. I found it it had a bad coil and replaced it. Never had a problem with it afterwards. It was a dependable little commuter car and had a bike rack on it. Should have never traded it in for my first Ranger.

When I was 6 my moms bought a blue hatch back (new), I think we had it for like 2 years. It was pretty dope, she totaled it swerving for a deer on HWY 17. I miss that thing.

A friend of mine had one when we were around high school age...he called it the "Ultimate Fishing Vehicle"...I found it to be ultimately not so ultimate. It was red and came with a cool Jeebus sticker on the bumper.

Once when we were driving it out on a gravel road to go fishing, a road that had been freshly oiled, one of the mudflaps got torn off...man, he was pissed...claimed he was going to sue DOT and make them pay for it.

I pointed out that it was a county road, but that didn't deter him...so far as I know he never actually filed the case...

He sure loved that car...the bummer was that I had a Nissan Sentra at the time, and I hated that car almost as bad as his B-210...those were our fishing rig choices at the time.

It was a happy day when I got my '79 F-150 4x4, that's for sure.

Fish on...

Todd

We bought a '72 B210 wagon when we lived in Soap Lake. It was a real treat to have a/c when it's 100 degrees and you're driving on a dirt road with 4 inches of talcum powder dust that seeps into the car at 15 miles an hour. When I appraised for the Game Dept., I worked from the Canadian border to the Tri-Cities and in the Blue Mountains. Most of the time off the paved roads. I beat that car and it held up. The engine finally overheated one day, the head warped and it just was too costly to pay to repair it, so a mechanic friend bought it and fixed it for his fishing vehicle.
It was one of the best cars I've had considering how much I beat it. A lot of hours on the engine at 15 miles an hour in the hills.

My friend had one when he was younger. I guess someone didn't pay the rent and his dad took it from the guy\ and gave it to him. It was pumkin orange and wouldn't die. One time someone stole it, put on a set of new tires and chrome wheels, ripped out the seat and apparently was using it as a vehicle to steal from. I guess they figured he would never bother calling it in. When he got it back and pointed out the new expensive wheels to the cops they just shrugged and said merry christmas.

I believe the Japanese got ahold of a BMW 2002 and copied it creating a cheaper version. I had an old 2002 that rocked as a climbing car. I remember the brown walls from all the dust.
