Check out the Band-tail pigeon in your bird book. We have them in our yard. They're local resident in the summer before heading south. We used to hunt them but it's hard find a place to do that now days.

It looks just like that, but the back of the head is all grey. The one in my book has dark or almost black feathers beaneath the white ring of feathers.

Pretty lame, thinking the pigion ate my chicken. But I was convinced it did. Dam meat eating predatory pigion.

You better wear safety glasses, a hard hat and carry a big stick when you go outside. You may even want to wear your biggest fishing net over your head. They'll gang up on you the first chance they get. They're partial to getting a big meal all at once. Global warming has made them predators.

I was telling the story at work, 100% sold on the idea that it really happened. Then the hawk came back.

Exactly. Chupacabra. I can tell by the beady glowing red eyes. If that doesn't say "Demon", than I don't know what does!

Did someone just mention "BigStick", if so here we go again, I am sure he could kill the crazy bird thing.

It's Friday afternoon, I'm a bit hung over, (my little brother drug down to Toadhouse Pizza last night for pizza and Mac and Jacks) and out of ambition to work. Posting drivel is way more stimulating.

Ah. That explains the "fowl" mood.

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

Hair of the Dog, man! Get back on that horse and have another pint!

T-40 minutes until it is BeerThirty for me! Kegger over in Oceanography at 4:30!

Sun, waterfront, bikins, boats, and beer! Life is good at the UW today!

Yea-I most likely will have a pint once I'm outta here. I just don't keep up with my maintenance drinking any more so it doesn't take much to screw up my head the next day. My flipper house is closing next week and I have a few things to do to finish the VA's requirements, so only pint tonight. Next weekend, if the closing happens on time, watch out.
My two surragote nieces will be at UW soon. One a freshman and one a 3rd quarter junior. The younger will probably try to get on the sailing team if she has time.

Tunaklr,

Straying back on topic, it sure looks like a Cooper's hawk. Maybe a sharp shinned, but we'd need better photos of the tail feathers to know. Both species are pretty cool hunters.

It was pretty cool, aside from loosing a couple hens. But that dam little hawk was so persitent. And its quary, one of my nice fat layers was so much larger that it.

The little hawk at on point had the chicken cowering under a rock rose that is right in front of my house. About 10 feet from the front door.

Thinking about it I have had other experiences with simalar hawks. But never more that a glance.

Thanks for all the feedback. Its nice to know that there is so much knowledge on here.

Now if it would just come back and take my rooster. I don't want to loose any more hens.
