I am more inclined to watch the Iron Maiden video myself. The only reason Nicklebag has a career is because every other band nowadays sucks ass. I'm listening to Gary Moore a lot lately.

nickelback represents everything that is wrong with popular music today....I mean, the guy wanted his nickel back and somehow that's a catchy band name?
remember a long time ago i posted that link to a site that played two nickelback songs side by side and they were the exact same song with different words?
total unadulterated pablum for the masses
I hope they choke on their 500 dollar la power lunches.
anyway, coolest music video ever? back in a few with some links...

A music aficionado has favorites in all types of music and dabbles in everything. A metal head dead head that is stuck in 1970 because he had hair and he didnt need a wheelbarrow to haul his saggin nuts and sagging game around likes iron maiden and swears by metallica ( the worst band ever musically...but they sold a CRAPLOAD of records...hat goes off to them) .despite the fact that his 8 track stereo in his T-top firebird is not able to play anymore, he rocks on blithely and has all the memorabilia and talks about the good ole days when his mullet and cut off t-shirt were socially accepted amoung a degrading acid rock society of junkies that got loaded so that the concert actually sounded "good". As time goes on and the ridicule piles up about his questionable music tastes you would think he would branch out and become more of a cultural music butterfly and broaden his musical horizons....but no...1970 has got its grip tightly on his fading hearing and eyesite. No matter how good a band is..his conversation starter is .."yeah well when iron maiden was.." yeah and their used to be slvery too...not all of history is something we are all proud of. moral of the story is dont be stuck on one opinion...sample the rest...if they sell two platinum records....obviously just a FEW people seem to think they are good love ya avid....

and for the record...Nickelback kicks serious arse...so does Zepplin and .38 special...but when it comes to my music opinions...i can go Dark side of the moon..but i tend to just "hold on loosely" to them...every style of music has its best and worst.

you boviously draw your conclusions from just the overplayed radio songs which puts you right along with the iron maiden fans. turn off the stereo and burn a CD or go buy it. "all the right reasons" kicks some serious arse. Linkin park's first CD pretty much had the same sort of music on every track...if it aint broke...DONT FIX IT...shoot Neil stupid diamond made a living out of the SAM SLOW CRAP SONGS for like what ???20 years??? if you are good at a sound ...dont change it Think of the greats AC/DC same sound..awesome crap!! metallica ...musically the WORST band in history..but they had that sound down pat... incubus....same thing, awesome songs green day is a prime example of the same crap on a different CD..but i love em!! Rage against the machine...but each song had crazy different riffs in it and a few different power chords for a few different songs...but they alll were in the same tone. i think you just need to get off the radio and stop reguritating other peoples opinions because it sounds all right. Turn off the radio, check them out online and dont let other radio fruit cakes influence your opinion. i turn on the radio like once a week. Always listening to different bands. i tend to steer more towards rock..nickelback, rage, audioslave ( favorite band), soundgarden, velvet revolver, HIM, korn, AC/DC, stepphenwolf, poison, van halen NOT VAN HAGGAR. that music video kicks butt by the way. its called ORIGINAL...

original huh? you mean like when randy newman did it? like when bon jovi did it? the list goes on and on and on but i won't bore you with it... any twit that can fiddle out kum by frickin ah on a guitar could play ALL of drivelbacks songs....in fact that dude even looks like this camp counselor I had at camp cheesywhine back in 82... i haven't turned an fm radio on in at least seven years. Most people around here know that I used to work in that business, there really isn't alot you can tell me about it that I haven't lived, eaten and breathed. One things for sure, there's no accounting for taste....some people like it safe, some people like it risky. Risk drives creativity. Record companies avoid risk like junkies resist rehab. In general non-musicians like it safe and packaged, pre-digested if you will. Musicians tend to appreciate risk...you can always tell a frustrated musician because they almost invariably have an eclectic taste... I'm less than impressed with metallica's output over the course of the last twenty years, but calling them the wort musicians ever is just plain ignorant. I suck three times worse than any of them as a clear example....for a more technical one, do you think that guy in spittlesack has ever heard of an arpeggio no less be able to play one flawlessly at eighth tempo?? um, no. he'll take his strummed open chords right to the bank thank you. i know this is shallow of me but I always put an asterisk by nickelback listeners....and people that like professional wrestling...and people that wear faux hawks. Aunty... ...you know I don't want to be a rockstar. I want to make good music, record it and spread the word outside of the mainstream music industry the old fashioned way (the internet?), by taking the show on the road. Stranger things HAVE happened but I couldn't possibly think of a more dismal, lonely, unfulfilling way to live and I can only hope I have the strength of character to recognize it coming before it happens and quit while I'm ahead. ...I decided not to post any videos because I think they suck too...except for this one, which is not for those with a short attention span, an inability to hear harmony in undertones, that don't know the difference between tube and solid state... YOB - Quantum Mystic Enjoy!! hehe...

Nickelback...great video but horrible song and band! The best music video ever IMHO is Johnny Cash's cover of Reznor's hurt...for him to sing that song at that age and stage of life...epic! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go

BTW I like Iron Maiden,Gary Moore AND Miles Davis,Thelonius Monk,ZZ Top,Frank Zappa,Pink Floyd,Johnny Guitar Watson,XTC,and Cannibal Corpse, along with Buddy Holly and Stanley Clarke,Captain Beefheart,Iggy Pop,Blah blah blah. It doesn't make Nickle Back suck any less. Fodder for the masses. As far as the Metallica comment,James Hetfield and Dave Mustaine(formerly with them)made a huge impact on the way guitar is played and cannot be denied that fact, just because you don't care for them. Selling records is not the mark of a good band,it is the mark of bad taste from the masses. Look at disco LOL. Oh yeah,Tupac and Eminem are at the top of my list as well as the Beastie boys,Beck,Jeff Beck,Butthole Surfers LOL. I just wanted to make a long,Merg type post. Funny my LONG posts wasn't really that long. How the hell can you type so much son?

i know this is shallow of me but I always put an asterisk by people that like professional wrestling...and people that wear faux hawks.
No doubt brother, cant argue that point.
But what is good music? who is determine good music? just like voting...who makes those desicions?
thats right...the majority.
One of the main factors i look at in good music whether its The Faint or Britney Spears where technical stuff is primarilay what the songs are made up of to Dashboard confessional where he started out with just an acoustic, i look at how much they sound like their CD. How clean the live sound is. How well they play, and the show they put on are very important.
For rock its the original hard riffs taht are NOT in the same dumb power chords everyone plays. Originality of the voice and style ( kris Kornell, AC/DC, Zach Delerocca, Robert Plant, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi.)
Stevie and jimi sucked at singing, really. But their guitar playing and style of songs were unforgettable. I play Stevie Ray vaughn for all my friends that dont ever listen to that style and they loved it. I havent found anyone that doesnt like him . That....is the power of good music. The ability to cross genres, gender, and races. U2...they have at least one song that appeals to someone. Elvis, johnny Cash, Dean Martin. They all have a song that everyone knows or that everyone can like.
i look at what they sing about. the originality of it. Nickelback sings for a different genre...not many people over 35 can really appriciate what they sing about. Whereas Pearl Jam or lets say Kenney chesney's songs appeal to the masses..everyone.Thats wahy country is so widely liked ( and hated...by people that like alot of music and arent boxed in by the twang of the steel guitar and accents) Most country singers sing about stuff that reaches into everyone and touchs something.
System of a down on the other hand is...well SOAD..hahaha crazy screaming and harsh lyrics for the disturbed masses. Like myself.
I think nickelback is great. They speak to me and the experiences in my life. Not only that..the riffs are awesome..the way the songs are broken up into are great and the whole flow of the music rocks. Its simple but successful. But if you go to a nickelback concert you wont see many people over 35.

Some of the most tired SOB's in the world are those guys who obsess about obscure bands and claim everything else sucks. The way I see it, they would not be unheard of unless they sucked.. its not like there is a secrete "good" music society out there that knows something the rest of the public does not. Its almost as tired as " Gun Guy" who sits down at your lunch table and proceeds to bore you on end with stories of obscure calibers and ballistics. I don't know, but the two types seem really similar to me. Reminds me of the " audiophiles " of the late 70's and through the 80's - Dumb ass would have 5,000 dollars worth of speakers that were 6 foot high stuck in the front room of a 600 sq foot apartment. He would turn that [censored] up in that tiny room and remark " God, just check out the .. Clarity" of these speakers. Wow.. this was pretty random, but I'll stand by it

I was never a fan of techno music until my son came back from the army after being stationed in Germany. He ended up djing in a couple of local clubs there. Drum and bass, Euro hip hop, jungle - all types I'd never heard of. I've listened to the cds he's mixed himself and I like it in small doses.

I am a *younger* person 29 and a few days. I think Nickleback sucks, really bad. Generic, faux rock for the masses can work for me, but it has to at least make me tap my toes or something. I don't see their music as 'good', just below average. When I try to think of this genre it is really hard to pin down a band that doesn't suck overall (Pearl Jam, Trapt, Creed, etc.). I also kind of follow what B-run is saying, but there are relatively un-known bands out there that are really pretty interesting to listen to, they just will never cross over to the mainstream because the sound does not fit the market. I have been on a bunch of different music kicks, and found out there are lots of bands out there only heard by small minorities of folks. Lately, I've been into som 70's California Psychedelic type music, really digging this group 'The Shocking Blue', Send me a Postcard . They apparently had a popular song called 'venus' but that 'Send me a Postcard' is better, really energetic. I got into them through Pandora.com searching Jefferson Airplane.

"Venus" was shocking Blue's big hit. Much controvesery when it first came out as Venus sounded alot like penis in the tune. The internet has helped obscure bands get some recognition as the industry giants are so intent on shoving the bands into genres for marketing purposes and some bands with a unigue sound have trouble because they don't fit the pigeon holes. It's really stiffled the creative process for musicians and the listener. Of course, the software to process the sound of the borderline singer (think Ashley Simpson) to make them sound ok and the other software available to mix down the music has lent to the "genericification" of music. I still play vinyl at home and buy it at some stores in Seattle andf elsewhere. I'm one of those old codgers you see at Value Village rooting thru all the crates of Montovani and Lawrence Welk to find the gems like a Sun Records Johnny Cash compilation I found a couple weeks ago.

"its not like there is a secrete "good" music society out there that knows something the rest of the public does not."
ummmm...that's exactly what it's like. some people choose to have their stuff handed to them on a silver platter....they get all their stuff from the radio and Mtv...fine for them and frankly, fine by me. but i have news for you b-run...if you think radio (aka big giant record companies) are giving you the best of what's out there 'you've got another thing comin'....
...they are giving you what they think they can sell you. If you are happy with that, more power to you. To me though it just epitomizes everything that's wrong not just with the music industry but American culture as a whole....we get our meat from megaranches, our vegetables from megafarms, buy our groceries from costco, do our christmas shopping at wal mart, and get our music from the radio...wtf happened to the little guy in this country?
I prefer fresh, locally raised meat. I prefer to grow my own vegetables or buy them from the co-op. I prefer to shop for groceries at the corner store. I do all of my christmas shopping in mom and pop shops. I find my music through networking. Yes, sometimes it takes a little more effort to live this way but in the end not only is it more rewarding for me personally, it benefits and enriches the local communities I patronize....
...i'm not trying to change anyone's mind on this stuff, like i said i know enough about this business to recognize the futility of that effort. What I'm after here is challenging people to get them thinking...also often an exercise in futility.
cheers

Well, I guess if I wipe my ass with a corn cob I'll know more about what kind of music people like than I do now ??? The music industry does not have a brain washing formula that makes people like a particular style of music (not much of a radio guy myself) People choose what they like.
I guess what I am saying is when obscure music guy asks me if I have ever heard of the " Blink blang Bungholes" chances are I never have or will. Thats not because I'm ignorant or conforming, its more likely that its because they suck in most peoples opinion. If they are any good, they will get out there sooner or later, and every one will hear it.

actually, the music industry DOES have a brainwashing formula...it's called 'Hit Song Science'... and this program or its competitor is used on every song released to the radio for airplay. Often bands demos are run through this product before they are even signed to determine their potential market value. I'm not sure what wiping your ass with a corncob has to do with anything though...butt hey, whatever floats your boat!

"I'll use Frank Zappa as the best example of a man who never sold himself out yet managed to have a good fan base anyway."
Frank Zappa is one of my heroes for the reason you've stated. He did come up when the record companies were a lot more experimental than now. The downfall of the record companies going on now they've done to themselves. I think the whole industry will loosen up with downloads becoming more mainstream. Selling a single tune online is kinda like the single '45's that were big here in the '50's and early '60's and still available in Reggae and dance music. Online streaming of music programs has also made a lot available that otherwise wouldn't be heard worldwide. I burn a lot of cds from different websites that djs post downloads on.

As long as some band is playing what I like, I could give a sh!t what anyone else is listening to. And I don't feel any need to justify my musical taste to anybody any more than I need to justify what my favorite samich is.

Not sure about all of this, I like what I like....at the moment, and that is constantly evolving, I find that I go through phases of one band or another, one style or another and then I'll find myself going back to something that I'd left behnd 10 years ago....
one thing that I am sure of, if you only listened to country 10 years ago and you still only listen to country, you're stronger than me.....honest, I'm old and I'd rather listen to snoop hot diggity dog's fuhnkified rap than another country jingle.
Well I guess that's the end of our relationship!
