Hey if anybody has a nice knotless soft mesh C&R net, please bring it along. My Magnum Beckman Finsaver is a bit overkill for this fishery.

In any case, I will be bringing waders and a couple of de-hooker sticks to facilitate in-the-water release of the "unwanted" by-catch. We certainly don't want to be dragging those hatchery coho up onto the rocks.

OK folks, how about some suggested sound bytes?

Here are some I'm thinking about putting on a sign:

"What about OUR half?"

WDFW =

WDFW =

Come on, let's hear your best shot. Remember... terse... pithy.

I hear salmon season closes in MA 2 Sunday, so tell me again why so many fish were shifted elsewhere?

Yep, that was me running a little steelhead test fishery prior to the weekend festivities! ;\)

Too bad those pesky jacks kept intercepting my spinner before I could connect with some steel. Aw shucks... skunked again.

I'll be there Sunday. A Sept 16th opener there would be absolutely harmless. It's true that when the nets are in that fishery goes to zero. I've spent many hours fishing there, made some friends, and always look forward to next year. It is torture to hear about a failed attempt to have this open for a couple weeks before the nets strip mine that stretch of river. Especially when the nets are going in the day before we're allowed to fish. Reading the initial post here makes me glad that someone else cares enought to rally the troops and try to get WDFW's attention (it's in their backyard for crying out loud, WDFW employees have driven up to chat with me about how fishing is, and I've even fished there with a few of them) but right now I have a sick feeling in my stomach about it.

There's even room for fishNaddicted eye surgeons on their lunch break. Fighting this nice hen king on my daughter's 6# outfit made me late for the afternoon shift! Thanks for the net-job Bill!

That pic of Arlene must have been right after she got there that day, she usually has the limit in no time, making us wonder what we're doing wrong! Same goes for Bill.

Those pics are an accurate representation of that fishery. Fun, friends, a good time. Little or no enforcement needed. If a fish is foul hooked there, it is an accident.

Hey, I think DogFish has bloodied a pair of dress slacks or two over the years at that spot as well.

Wait til after work? You gotta be kidding? When the tide says fish, you know what to do!

I think it's actually Kenai water flowing thru my veins, lubricated with sardine oil to keep it from ever clotting up in my system.

Every lunch hour, raining or not, I'm fishing when it is open. It really can be fun.
