I'm looking to purchase a new wading jacket. I've narrowed my choice to the following: Redington Bow River Wading Jacket, Simms G3 Guide Wading Jacket, Hodgman Guidelite Breathable Wading Jacket, and Sage Skagit Soft Shell Wading Jacket. I do plan on looking at all of them, but was wondering if any of you have any experience with any of them or have any recommendations. Thanks.

i have worn 2 of the 4.
The redington is a nice jacket. I think their apparel is top notch. Its warm but more water resistant than water proof.
The simms G3 is the best jacket, but price wise over the top IMO
I have seen the sage jacket although not used it myself. really a nice jacket to look at and the guys that had it were very pleased.

Thanks for replying to my post D3. In fact I was going to pay a visit to Peninsula Outfitters because Bill said he had lots of jackets. However, he was out of stock in a couple of the ones I was interested in. I ended up going all over the place today (Fife, Kent, north Seattle, and Bellevue). One of the main features I was looking for was a waterproof zipper so there would be no storm flap. I looked at the Hodgman and nixed it. I looked at the Simms G3 and liked it, but felt it was a little overpriced. I looked at the Redington Bow River and liked it, but wasn't happy with how the cuffs fit. Since I was in the Seattle area, I decided to drop in at Orvis and ended up purchasing the Ovis Tailwater XT. I also liked the way the cuffs fit around my wrists.

Since you're in the biz, I also met Anil at PFC. Super nice guy. At Orvis I met Leland. Also another super guy.

Yeah, I agree with you that no sleeve is perfect. I have very thin wrists and both the G3 and Orvis allowed me to tighten the cuffs pretty good without running out of velcro (hope you know what I mean). I do expect to get a little wet, but hope to keep it down at my wrist area instead of down my arm.

Will let you know how I like it.

I fish the redington jackets. They have several to choose from. My favorite is one that retails for about $65 and is rubber on the outside, with a liner. At that price I fish it until the seams blow and then get a new one. It is honestly the driest wading jacket I've fished over the years, Simms included.

I have tried on the Patagonia jackets (Deep Wading and Stretch SST) and they both seem pretty solid. The SST is longer, has a rod holder and waterproof pocket for valuables. The Deep wading is cut shorter and weighs less. Fits well with a vest. Both hand warmer pockets, nice for those icy winter days on the river. Both have cuffs that seem like they would seal well but who knows. I am having a hard time deciding between the two. Leaning towards the SST.

I won't post the whole link here as it is quite long, but their site, patagonia.com, has the info.

I bought the Simms and never looked back, best coat I ever owned. My North Face is nice but to long while sitting in a boat.

Oh and the pockets in the coat are high so you can put your hands in them while sitting and keep them warm.
