The only place I'm truly at peace is when I'm walking the banks of a river full of steelhead
Peace? Maybe for you normal people. Put an ADD kid like me on a river full of steelhead, I'll be shaking too much to tie a knot. I get so excited I'll cut off the mainline instead of the tag end after I finally tie up. I'll spaz and forget to hit the thumb bar when I cast, I'll forget not to hit the thumb bar when I'm retrieving line. With no body else around, and fish rolling everywhere, I'll trip over my own tackle bag. It's a wonder I land anything at all.
What you did Sol is motivating. The couch, and the computer chair have been supporting my rear end for too long. I need a big adventure of my own. Congrats to you and Nick for living well, for spending those days like they were meant to be spent.
Those pics remind me of Idaho elk camp; The painfully sharp dry chill of early morning air; The ground that chatters at your boots, as the ice and snow give way with a brittle crackling; Wisps of frozen vapor that hang like a dream faintly remembered. And in the presence of a close friend, and once the coffee is brewing, a morning like that has no urgency for words, no necessity of speech. On mornings like that, even I can be quiet.
Thanks again Tim, and Nick, for living like men.
