Yeah that is seriously not cool. Besides worrying about the cold, was it so cold that it made fishing non enjoyable at times?

Everyday was a struggle from the time we boarded the boat until we peeled our waders off in the camper and poured a cocktail in the afternoon, and then we didn't sleep because in our subconscience we knew we were out of our element.

That is the exact feeling I used to get when I first started rowing a drift boat. Still get it when floating a new river I haven't gone down before that possibly has dangers. I'm pretty much a puss when it comes to rowing. \:\)
Upper Sauk is the most I get into.

That portion of the equation diminished a little every day as I gained confidence. The river dropped about a foot and a half while we were there and the "route" through the rapids tightned up considerably in that time. Glad it was high when we first got there. The sleep never got any better, however, because we were still almost a hundred miles away from a major road on a snowy forest service road in a 30-foot motorhome towing a boat, AND, it snowed most every night. Worrying about getting out of there without sliding that thing off an embankment was something that occupied us the entire stay.

I was "told" by the resident expert that our trip was "all about the numbers." Maybe it was and I won't appoligize for it, either. We didn't take the chances we did to catch one fish every other day and contemplate the river over pipe tobacco and a swung fly in water a few degrees above freezing. Bare you own cross, dude, I know you're reading this.

Sol
I don't understand what you meant by this?

All I was trying to say is that it took a lot of balls to do the trip, that is all.

It wasn't directed at you, Dave, it was directed at the Smithers resident that made the comment.

Yes sir. The front of the jet-raft was too bouncy so I held the camcorder in my right hand and the tiller to the Merc in my left and shot the first mile of the downstream run from the stern. You won't see that footage on youtube, only in my living room. \:\)

When I get a house, maybe. I'm dust in the wind living out of my truck, at the gym or in my sisters basement. Divorce, ya know.

The more I read about this trip the cooler it sounds……

I’m also a whimpy rower and often feel that wig wig feeling in the pit of my stomach in the morning but over time I’ve learned to just battle thru it.

In my youth I used to do the ski-mountianeering thing. If it was snowing I would worry about avalanches. If it was windy I’d worry about the cornices and slab avalanches. If it was clear and cold I’d worry about frostbite. And I’d always be worried about a bad fall and whether we could get myself or a partner off the mountain in one piece. Looking back it was never as bad as I made it out to be but I’m a wigger at heart so that is just a part of the adventure. The wig factor was always directly related to how far away from the trailhead we where. This trip puts my little weekend backcountry ski trips to shame!

Sounds to me like this trip had all the trappings of a great adventure and kudos to Sol and Nick for going for it!! Most impressive. Well done and thanks for sharing
