I went at lunchtime today with a couple guys from the office. It's big and impressive, but I wonder who really needs three acres of camo clothing. Only made it half way around, so barely got into the fishing section and missed the fly fishing area completely. Lotsa' need old guns, and it must be the biggest gun shop in the area now. Never seen so many stuffed animals in one place before - that was kinda' cool and weird both at the same time. I'll definitely go back, but I don't know if I want to buy anything there yet, or just browse.

Chum Man, I stand corrected. Apparantly Cabelas split their business into three entities. Physical, internet, and mail order. So they claim that they are exempt from the state sales tax since their physical store is separate from their mail order and internet stores. They usually require a state to give them a ruling on the sales tax issue before they will build in that state. Chum Man, do you know if Washington ruled in their favor on that before they built here? I'm guessing we did since they built the store.

Taken directly from the Cabela's website in regard to sales tax and for what it's worth:

"Sales Tax is charged on mail, internet, and telephone orders for
deliveries in Nebraska, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Illinois and
Minnesota.

In addition, all orders shipped from a Cabela's Retail store to a state
in which there is a Cabela's Retail store present, will be charged the
applicable sales tax of that state."

My parents live out there off Marvin Road. I wonder if they are wishing they'd have moved now that it takes them an hour to get to the freeway now that those traffic circles are clogged up with yokels and tourists.

Other then at the roundabouts the traffic wasn't bad (IMO) I drove by the store twice yesterday. As for the roundabouts, damn there are alot of stupid drivers out there.

My wife works there so I get the employee discount! Now if they would take the employee and military discount and wrap that with my Oregon tax exempt, I could walk out of there virtually with free stuff. But they don't \:\(

My kids liked riding the elevator, was like going up the side of a very small mountain.

Crowd wasnt nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, and neither kid was screaming, which was a bonus.

I will be going to check it out more thoroughly when I am not pushing the stroller, but I did pick up a couple of fillet knives and a sharpener.

The gear seems based on Bassmaster 08 needs though...

Maybe I should just gear up for Tapp's now that the lake is dropping into shape.

Did the Cabelas thing Saturday. Even though it took 1/2 to find a parking spot, it did not seem crowded in there. Unlike the shopping malls during the winter. I did notice on a few items I looked at, the prices where less than that in the catalogue! I also discovered something new, there is such thing as a department store I can enjoy shopping at! I observed a post from a previous member that there was not alot of stuff fit for an angler in the northwest. That I noticed also. Items they do not have, I have purchased from Sportsman warehouse, Sportco, and elsewhere in the past.

Nice place. They have lots of stuff.
Lots of useless stuff too. Too much bass and walleye gear which will not sell well here. They need to know more about WA hunting and fishing.
I can get a better price else where.

Some of you guys may assume that too much bass and walleye gear is a mistake. I doubt it, Bass fishing especially, is a big deal in this state and get's bigger every year. I think Cabela's knows the market around here.

For instance, Bass jigs, say the stuff with the lead on a hook you thread a grub like fin swiggling thingy on....
Have you ever tried one with a trout rod off Umatilla reef south of neah bay for lingcod and black rockfish within 20' feet of the rocks?
If not, ya missin somethin fun!

lots of fun...anyway...my bass partner went to Cableas today...waited in a line before they opened to get a new GPS...i have been bugging him for about 8 months pretty much every time i see him that he needs one...he knows that he needs one now, and money was not a problem as far as buying one...he was more worried about drilling a hole or two in his bass boat, and was it really needed?...so he went there today, and had two people help him buy a GPS..he went all out and got a color 7 inch screen that he thought was a GPS fishfinder...WRONG...they sold him a fishfinder...now he has got to go back...what a pain...we are not close...this was a big trip to check out the store...from what i hear great for a bass guy, but they all say its not like Bass Pro Shops...ahhahaah

I have had my Cabelas card for some time now, i love it...i get points for free stuff...and i do have to say, thier returns have never been a problem AT ALL...they people on the phones are great, and are very helpfull...i have not been to the store yet, but will make it soon...maybe next sun...c

Headed out there tonight. Had an elk sandwich. Not bad. Pretty store, and we were there for about an hour and a half. Might have to go there when I have a little more time. LOTS of firearms. Ammo selection was pretty good, and it looks like they have a good selection of reels.

The fish tank was a bit depressing, some small bass, blue gill, and trout that had seen better days.

Really liked the mountain with all of the full body mounts.

Got my free hat, a $10K limit on my card, and I'm sure I'll be back.

Waypoints my friend, waypoints! Very usefull for bass fishing or for that matter, any fish that consistently relate to structure. I've fished with a guy who has over 200 beaver huts marked on his GPS at Potholes alone. I like to think I know that body of water well and really I could fish 20 one day with him and not be able to find my way to 10 the next day on my own. If you've been there in the spring you know what I'm talking about.

Went There today and is still full of people and will be through the holidays, I went to the fishing dept. to look at reels and found they didn't have a large selection due to the fact they had opened 3 other new stores and their warehouse was low on inventories for the new Lacey store. looked at fishing vest and didn't have much in selection. Didn't really have anything I needed there and then I looked at G.I.Joe's ad and saw Korkers Cross Current wading boots with both lug and felt soles for $70.00 , Guess I'll be going to Vancouver tomorrow!
