It's been a couple weeks for me. I should be out this weekend if water conditions are favorable.

hopefully it rains a little bit to get water temps up and a little more flow. cause water is getting really low again and the bite has been off and on the last couple days. but the few days after the high water was on fire in a couple places i fish.

the bum thing is even with the water so low there are alot of places you think would be good but are still blown from new bleeds and slides. I'm waiting another month and then its time to bust out the 9140, some big tubes, and start shwinging!

Fished the upper Skykomish Tuesday afternoon. Water was in good shape with over 4' of visability and COLD. Got one grab that felt like a Dolly, but no steel for me. Guys at Reiter were picking up a few, but told me it had cooled off after a hot weekend bite.

Flyfishing for Winter Brats is like playing the lottery - you don't really expect to hit the jackpot so any success is an unexpected bonus.

Ditto OP's comment - Jan-Feb should see the arrival of some big nates on my favorite OP rivers. Keeping fingers crossed for friendly weather!

Since it's been two months since this was discussed, let's put this up front again. Anybody get 'em on flies recently?

i just got my new switch rod from don a couple days ago. went out yesterday but i dont have a line that the right wt for my rod. BUT i still manages to swing a few flies with it.

didnt touch a thing though like usual.

but the rod felt great and will feel even better when i get a reel and line to balance to everything out.

Swinging flies Friday and Sunday as I posted on the main board. Zero, zip, zilch. Perfect water conditions, undisturbed, first water all day. River was empty in that area, altho it's known to be productive most any other season.

Last Sunday I had two seconds of "YA, BABY!" Followed by a few cuss words and then the shakes for a few minutes after that. Hooked a pretty big fish that left a big hole in the water as it surfaced and let me have my fly back.

2/3 of the way thru the swing. Pretty much right where I thought if I was going to get hit this would be it. You know that tug, TUG, swirl, gone. Snow white belly and all. My buddy upstream saw the swirl on the surface from probably 100 yards away. Oh, well. Heading to the coast for a couple days and then back here for a Sunday float.

i went out today and fished for about an hours. but fishing a quick little river with a floating line kinda sucks. even with big wieghted bunny leaches...

i did however get my very first take from a steelhead. seen it flash and splash the surface after i missed the hookset.

it was awesome.
